My Favorite Books on Prayer

When I first started sharing daily prayers for our kids on Facebook, it was just because it was an easy thing to share. I figured you’d like to have a daily verse as much as I do. I have been so excited when so many of you respond, like and share those small statuses.

I feel like we’re having a mini-prayer meeting and all of us are quickly laying hands on our kids at the same time, praying the same thing. What life change God can do with those quick prayers!

Many people have been asking about the books I get the prayers from and I’m going to show them all to you now!

praying for your children book suggestions

The first (and my personal favorite) is Stormie Omartian’s Power of a Praying Parent.  The reason I love it is that it is powerful. They chose the right name for the book! These aren’t meek, “keep-my-kid-safe” prayers. These are Scripture-filled, expectant prayers. I feel powerful when I read them!

I did a vlog about the book, if you’d like to hear (and see) more!

The book I’m reading now (it’s taken me waaay too long to read…my morning quiet times haven’t been too quiet, apparently!) is called Praying the Scriptures for Your Children by Jodie Berndt. This one has longer chapters than Omaritan’s book, so it will take some time to read if you’re doing it as a devotional. She gives lots of stories and powerful little nuggets of truth in the chapter about prayer and real life prayer miracles. The chapter ends with Scriptures slightly altered to be a prayer for your children.

I love putting my kids’ name in Scripture. It reminds me how living and active God’s Word really is!

The other book I l-o-v-e is Mark Batterson’s Praying Circles Around Your Children. This one is a mini 100 page booklet. And really, I think it’s mostly excerpts from his book, The Circle Maker. But it is so inspiring and so empowering.

If you want to be reminded that your prayers do matter and that God has given you the ability, the calling and the right to change your kids’ lives in prayer–you need this book! I feel like I underlined the whole book because it was that good.

Warrior Prayers by Brooke McGlothlin
Another one on my bookshelf is Praying for Boys by Brooke McGlothlin. It’s designed for moms of boys, but you will love it if you have girls, too!

I got to hang out with Brooke at dotMom last weekend and let me tell you, she is passionate about praying for boys. She believes (and I do, too) that we can begin a revival in the hearts of boys…future men, dads and husbands by praying for them as boys. Oh, this is so big! This book is similar to Berndt’s book in that she’s listed a lot of Scripture with blanks for your kids’ names. I love it!

I also love Marla Alupoacicei’s book, Prayer Warrior Mom and Jenica McMaster’s Prayer with Purpose journals. You can see more on my Praying for Your Kids Pinterest board annnd, if you subscribe to my newsletter, you can get a copy of my prayer book, Praying God’s Word for Your Kids!
