Well, I’ve got a big announcement. Last year at Christmas, I wanted to write an ebook. This was even before ebooks were a dime a dozen. But, as usual, I got lazy and didn’t do it. This year. Well, I did it.
I am releasing a Christmas Advent book for kids and families on the day after Thanksgiving. I am RIDICULOUSLY excited about it. Like have butterflies in my stomach as I type this so excited!
And today, I want to introduce the title and cover to you! Buzzhive (which also happens to be run by my fabulous brother) is doing the design and I gotta tell you, it looks super DUPER good. OK. Are you ready? (I’m nervous.) Here we go. The cover and title of my ebook…
Is that the cutest little thing you ever did see?! And in case you can’t read the little byline it says, Truth in the Tinsel: An Advent Experience for Little Hands.
Let’s break this down Top Ten style:
1. When deciding on the name, I wanted “Advent Experience” in there because this book is not a devotional, it’s not a craft book. It’s more than that–it’s really an experience for you and your kids during Advent–the days leading up to Christmas.
2. This book is (get ready for an overused, almost meaningless word) organic. I didn’t write this because I wanted to cash in on ebooks. I wrote it because it’s an organic idea…an true and real experience that began in our family. And one I think others will enjoy.
3. DO YOU LOVE THAT LITTLE KID ON THE FRONT?!
4. You can like the Truth in the Tinsel Facebook page NOW. And would you, please, pretty please so I can get the custom URL? Please and thank you!
5. The basic overview of the book is that you and your kids will spend a few minutes each day reading a portion of the Christmas Story (from all of the main passages), making a small ornament to correspond with the story and then talking about it. Sounds fun, right?
6. You do not have to be crafty, creative or even super cool to read and love this book. I wrote it with the I-want-to-do-something-cool-with-the-kids-but-am-too-tired-uncreative-to-figure-something-out parent in mind.
7. I believe Christmas is THE best time to impress God’s Word on your kids heart. In fact, I wrote a whole post about Making Holidays HOLYdays. You should read it.
8. The book goes on sale the day after Thanksgiving. That’s BLACK FRIDAY. And you know what that means: DEALS! So, make sure you’re connected with me (as Impress Your Kids) on twitter and with Truth in the Tinsel on Facebook so you can get the deal-of-a-lifetime.
9. I’m looking for 20 bloggers who have an appropriate audience for this book to review it the week before (or after) Thanksgiving. If you’re a mom blogger, a homeschool blogger, ministry-church type blogger (or something else you think would fit) email me at amanda at ohamanda.com and let me know if you’re interested. I’ll have my people call your people. (Kidding. I don’t have people.)Β Yowza! All the spots are full! THANK YOU!
10. When I read through the book out loud the first time, I cried at the end of it. Without being prideful, can I just say that I think this has the potential to introduce kids to Jesus for the first time? And to make a lasting impression and maybe even a lasting CHANGE in their little hearts. I’m crazy excited about it and hope you’ll love it, too!

So very exciting!!!!!! I emailed you and shared this post because I think it’s going to be fabulous (like every other thing you write!…and I’m not just saying that because I want to review it…lol) Regardless, I am happy to support this ebook however I can!
So very excited for you- and will definitely be purchasing this book! Love ways to be deliberate about teaching my kids truth. Thanks, Amanda and all the best!!!!!
Oh my word! I am SO PROUD OF YOU! Can I say that? I’m 40 now, so I’m allowed to say things like “I’m so proud of you.” Girl. So excited for you. Can’t wait to read it. You know I’ll review it but Mags might be above the target audience. Oh I’m so excited. Off to spread the joy on Twitter. Yay! Yay! Yay!
Thank you, Kathy! I *do* think the target age is my kids (preschool/early elementary) but I’d love to hear what an “older” kid thinks!!
{Plus, I think you kinda know a thing or two about writing to preschoolers!}

I liked your book on facebook! Looks amazing!
love it! Advent was a great time for us last year as we did a modified Jesse Tree ..had trouble finding something ‘just right’ for the littles so I pieced something together myself…can’t wait to see your ebook! And as a designer, I think your cover is just WONDERFUL!
YAYAYAYAY! I wish I had a blog I could post it on so I could help spread the word. π I’ll be working it on FB, though!
Congrats!! And seriously, super cute cover!
I’m sending you an email now… π
Congrats on your e-book. What an accomplishment! My blog is not really your target audience, but I’ll be watching for the reviews elsewhere. I’m excited to try to do some advent-y stuff with my own kids this year.
What a great idea for an e-book! Congratulations on completing such a wonderful project! I love doing activities with my kids all year, but especially during holiday season:) Will look out for your book.
Thanks for sharing,
Kristina
OH my GOODNESS! I’ve been LOOKING for something like this! I’m SO excited! I’m lining up now to get it . . . where does the line start?
OH, AMANDA! (hee hee, get it?) I absolutely love it!!! I’ll be getting one when you release it!
Wow, just so impressed, so proud, so love this title – amazed when other mamas pull off ebooks. And this sounds like such a keeper!! Huge congrats my friend!!
Also? The cover is like stinking adorable!!!! you are the amazing sauce!
Congratulations on finishing the book! It looks and sounds absolutely captivating!
Congrats!! It looks like it is going to be a HUGE success… as if any of us had doubts!
How neat! What age range is this appropriate for? I have a 2 1/2 year old – should I wait till next year?
I’m doing it with my son this year and he’s 3, so I think it’s perfect! I’d say the target age is preschool to early elementary. But if your kid likes crafts in general, they’ll like it! π

this is soo exciting!! I am definitely looking forward to seeing/reading (possibly reviewing) this ebook!! Everyone around me is so caught up in the presents aspect of Christmas, that I struggle to bring it back to the focus on Jesus!! My kids know who Jesus is, but I would love any assistance is teaching them to KNOW Jesus!! π
ps. the cover is FANTASTIC!!!
What an adorable book and a great idea!! Congratulations! And thanks for hosting Top Ten Tuesday! π
Kudos! How exciting!!! I look forward to reading it!
Wow I can’t wait to read it, and maybe even put it under the tree for my neices and nephews! This is the first Top Ten Tuesday I’ll have participated in, thank you for hosting this, what a fun idea!! It was a lot more challenging than I thought, lol.
I am so excited about this book. My quadruplets will turn 3 years old on Christmas Eve, and I have been thinking a lot about how I can make Christmas meaningful every year when the day is preceded by FOUR birthdays! My own family never used an Advent calendar when I was a kid, but I had already decided that my husband and I needed to make Christmas a month-long thing in our house … just hadn’t figured out the best way to do that yet. I think this book just might be the answer. Can’t wait till next Friday!!
Keep up with me, Ted, and our Fab Four at http://four-by-two.blogspot.com.
Congrats, love the idea behind this book. I recently released my very first e-cookbook so I know the time and effort it takes writing one. Best of luck on your venture. I can’t wait to get a copy and read it with my boys this year.
I LOVE the title of your book and the picture! It’s so cute! I’ve been looking for ideas of things to do this year with my daughters (ages three and one) to make Christmas special for them. Especially for my three-year-old. I feel like she’s at an age where she’s really starting to ask questions and form memories, and this is the perfect time to start showing her how much Christmas means. So I’m super excited about things to do… and your book sounds cool! π
As an aspiring author myself, I salute you and your successful publication! So Very Cool! Congrats and many blessings to you!
