Lydia’s Birthday Party: Top Ten {Tuesday}

Do you know that Lydia’s 6th birthday is in less than 2 months?! What in the world?! Last week, Lydia and I started talking about what kind of party she wants. Here are a few we discussed (and a few other cute ones thrown in)…

TOP TEN CUTE AND FUN GIRL BIRTHDAY PARTY THEMES

1. Camping Party

Lydia desperately wants a camping party. And I think it would be super fun to set up about 5 tents outside and let the kids just play! But in January? *shiver*

2. Art Party

I love the idea of an Art Party! I have some ideas tucked away for this—but I think I’ll let Lydia get a year or two older. Then I won’t have to help with the actual art so much!

3. Book Party

I really wanted to do this one last year for her “golden” birthday—how cute would a Golden Book Party had been? But I just couldn’t figure it out and then, of course, Tangled happened. One day we will have a book party. That Charlie & Lola bunting alone would make it worth it!

4. Ballet Party

I almost had her talked into a Ballet Party until she realized she couldn’t invite any boys. And considering her best friend at school is a boy, she wasn’t up for that.

5. Wizard of Oz Party

OK, so she’s never actually seen this movie. But I just think it would be a fabulous party–ruby slippers, munchkins, yellow brick road, good witches, apples and melted wicked witches! Maybe for my 35th next year. (AM I GOING TO BE 35 NEXT YEAR??!!)

6. Color Party

Lydia’s first birthday was a “Purple Fairy Party”. But my party planning mojo wasn’t as intense as it is now. I’d love to do a color party. And of course, I’d choose PURPLE!

7. Garden Party

Another tough one for January, but man-oh-man, I just love those place settings!

8. Panda Party

OK. This is another one for me. But how cute would this be?!!

9. All-Of-A-Kind Family Party

We’ve been reading All of a Kind Family for a few months (I think we’re on book 3). I thought a turn-of-the-century party would be fun. I could mix it up with a little Betsy-Tacy, Mary Poppins and American Girl’s Rebecca, too!

10. Little House on the Prairie Party

It was Laura and Mary that finally took the cake! Lydia loves Little House on the Prairie and I’m so excited she chose this theme for her birthday! Let me know if you have any good ideas, I’ve started a Pinterest board (of course!).

    I love ALL of these ideas! My favorite is probably the golden book party because I have many good memories of those from when I was a kid!

    I’m so glad you went with Litlle House on the Prairie!!! I saw your board on Pinterest, and absolutely fell in love!!! Do you think Elias would go for that? ;). Actually, child continues to change his mind about what he wants. We’ve been through Legos, star wars, construction, army-airplane (whatever that is – I’m glad he’s moved past that one) – and I know I’m forgetting some. I need to figure out donovan’s first and then move on to elias’s… Donovan’s is only a month away! Ack!

    I love the Little House on the Prairie Party idea!

    I remember from one of the books – I think Little Town on the Prairie – that Laura was so excited to have a REAL ORANGE at a party at a big boy’s house. And in one of the books (maybe By the Banks of Plum Creek?) she is so excited by the – I think – lemonade and cake made from white sugar at Nellie Olson’s party. Maybe those could be some good details to replicate (but confirm first and make sure my post-brain surgery brain isn’t playing tricks on me!).

    And maybe each girl could start working on a little 9 square patchwork quilt like Laura’s? Or that might be too involved to do with fabric, but could be fun with squares of scrapbook paper.

      I love a quilt idea! Wonder if I could figure out a way to have all the kids make one as a gift for Lydia? Or would that be weird?

      Yes, I thought about the orange, too! I remember she got a penny and a peppermint stick in her stocking and thought it was the BEST CHRISTMAS EVER. I think that will be our favors! 🙂

        My friends and I have made quilts for each other’s weddings. Send the squares to each family before the party and then have them bring them to the party. Then, you and Lydia could finish of the quilt (or find someone to do it). You could do a really easy pattern. That would be fun!

    You could give each kid a square of muslin and a fabric marker to decorate it, and then you could make the squares into a quilt later!

    Oh my holy cow. (P.S. Can we talk about how much I LOVE All-of-a-Kind Family? I read it so much in 4th grade my [amazing] teacher gave me the book from her classroom. But I never had any idea there were more books until I was an adult!)

    I want all of these parties. Which one are you planning for my 30th? 😉 (My 30th and your 35th are like two weeks apart, right? I totally think that we could validate a joint Sisterchicks party.)

    I CANNOT get my child to read the Little House books. It kills me. She won’t read those. She won’t read Emily of New Moon. No, she wants to read Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Dork Diaries. UGH! Maybe one day…

    I always wanted to be Laura Ingalls when I grew up. Glad Lydia picked such a fun theme!

    All fabulous ideas! I don’t think I’m going to be extravagant for my daughter’s parties until she’s old enough to appriecate them. Maybe around Lydia’s age. I’m not the “crafty mom” but Pinterest sure makes it easier!

After reading about your pirate party with the map, and reading my four year old Little House on the Prairie and all the Kirsten American girl books…we had decided to do a Little House Birthday party…looking forward to seeing what you do…My plan is to make each of the girls a bonnet as the favor….not sure about the boys yet!

    I love the camping party idea! And the art party! Oooh, and the book party even more! I’ve thought about a color party before… I think we might do that in an upcoming year. This year we’re doing a puzzle party for my puzzle-loving toddler!

    Just found your blog and I love your exuberance! I also love the top ten lists – great idea, & fun! re your daughter’s party – I love the Little House theme she chose, my kids loved those books – and all the fabulous food in the Almonzo books from the series (really, that family had some amazing meals before they went out for work on the farm in the morning). But for the future – don’t say no to the garden or camping in January! We have set up tents in the living room (and sometimes for no reason except fun) and for my oldest’s 6th bday we brought in a play pool, filled it with sand, & the kid’s wore swim suits. If I’m not mistaken, your house sounds just as energetic! Can’t wait to hear about the party plans and participate in a future top ten. ~Lori

    The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

    I think that everything said made a ton of sense. However, think on this, what if you were to create a awesome title? I mean, I don’t want to tell you how to run your website, but what if you added something that grabbed people’s attention? I mean Top Ten Birthday Party Themes for Girls | ohamanda.com is a little vanilla. You should look at Yahoo’s home page and see how they create post titles to get people interested. You might add a video or a pic or two to get readers interested about everything’ve written. In my opinion, it might make your posts a little livelier.
