When my daughter was born, I was happy that she looked like me. I was glad she was a girl. I know girls. I know ME. When I found out my second born was a boy? I was a little scared. What do I know about boys? About being best friends with a guy? About boys’ locker rooms and boys’ birthday parties and boys’ clothes? NOTHING.
As my little guy has grown, I’ve felt baptized by fire. Besides just being a completely different person than my daughter (or me), he is SO INCREDIBLY a BOY! He makes noises like a boy. He laughs at things only boys laugh at. He stomps around like a boy. He makes messes like a boy.
And he’s got me wrapped around his little finger.
Because his little boy snuggles? His little boy kisses? His little boy I-love-you-mommy? His little boy smell? More precious than I could have imagined!
So, if you’re here from the BOY MOM BLOG HOP, welcome! I’m glad to know more boy moms because I need all the insight and help I can get.
Let me introduce myself, my BOY and my blog to you…
I’m Amanda. (*waves*)
My son is Asa. (Yes, he has a pair of shorts on his head. I just scrolled through our PhotoBooth till I found a cute pic!) He was named after King Asa because I love the prayer that King Asa prayed before battle, “LORD, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O LORD, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you.โ (2 Chronicles 14:11) I want it to be a life verse for my Asa. So he would always remember to rely on God. Oh, and Asa is a hilarious little bundle of a boy. He makes me laugh and scratch my head on a regular basis.
My blog here is whereย I try to offer parenting tips (sometimes it ends up being encouragement from my parenting fails!), craft ideas that incorporate God’s Word and resources you can use to impress God’s Word on your kids’ hearts and minds. Really, I’m just trying to follow Deuteronomy 6:4-9,
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. (NIV)
I want to use every day, every opportunity and every experience to teach my kids about the Lord. We do that in lots of different ways. Of course, there’s books, movies and music. We also do crafts, activities and games. I love memorizing scripture with the kids in creative ways and then plastering the verses all over our house.
Here’s a few fun ideas that (I think) would be perfect for the little boys in your life!
Treasure Stones for your little pirate!
A Joseph Obstacle Course {part of our Christmas series!}
Playacting with David and Goliath
And a few of Asa’s favorite books:
Dragon & Turtle books, Pancake books, Mrs. Rosey Posey and the Secret Treasure, God Loves Me More Than That
Thanks for stopping by! I’d love for you to introduce yourself and tell me about your little boy! If you’re a regular around here, introduce yourself and your son, too!
