Mother’s Day morning my husband and kids surprised me with a necklace. Then we rushed off to church where I received some tulips for my house. Next was lunch with my in-laws. We ate shrimp, fish, crab and lobster bisque! We ran home after lunch so the kids could take a nap before my family arrived to celebrate Mother’s Day with fondue! I got a sweet card from my sister-in-law, a candle from my parents, a card from my niece and some fun crafty supplies from my aunt. Not to mention all that chocolate fondue!
It was really a glorious Mother’s Day! I am beyond thankful to be a mother and for all the mothers in my life!
This morning as I recounted my Mother’s Day, I remembered an email in my inbox from World Vision. They did (are doing?) a Mother’ Day initiative that invites people like you and me to sponsor a child with no mother. All the fun stuff I mentioned above seems very trivial and even sad when thinking about a child who doesn’t have a mom!
Did you know this time last year I was in the Dominican Republic with World Vision? And I was meeting the mother of my sponsored child?
Mari Luz, her mother Maria and me
While we were there, Mari Luz’ mom wrote me a letter. She said thank you for sponsoring Mari Luz and then told me that she and her husband are both HIV positive. They had not told Mari Luz yet. It is possible that my sponsored child will one day be motherless.
But through World Vision I get to be a far away mother to her. I get to provide clothes and water and schooling for her. I get to communicate with her and tell her is lovely and loved by God. I get to align our families. I get to pray for her and in a small way lead her to Jesus.
It’s the best I can do to honor HER Mother.
On this day after Mother’s Day, will you look at the children who need a mom? Look at the children you could add to your family–simply by sponsoring them?

Wow what you are doing is amazing and I love reading about stuff like this! Kids Fun Plaza is actually going to the Dominican Republic in July to help with families under all different circumstances! I would love to talk to you more about your experience while you were there… Also, this may be something you may find of interest… http://blog.kidsfunplaza.com/2011/05/03/meet-a-mother-mentor/

We sponsor a girl who lives in India. Every time she writes to us, she addresses herself as our daughter. It quite literally brings tears to my eyes. We never really know what an amazing effect we have on people when we love them like Christ does.

I seldom leave remarks, however i did a few searching and wound up here Happy Day After Mother’s Day | ohamanda.com. And I actually do have some questions for you if it’s allright. Is it simply me or does it look like some of these responses look like coming from brain dead folks? 😛 And, if you are posting on other social sites, I would like to keep up with anything fresh you have to post. Could you make a list of all of your community pages like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
