I’ve been doing Top Ten {Tuesday} for over 2 years now! That’s like 100 Top Ten lists! Are you bored yet? I’m not! Really, the Top Ten lists you guysΒ link up are amazing! I can’t always get to all 50+ of you to comment or tweet or stumble but know that I am ecstatic that each of you link up. And I hope you enjoy it, too–hope it gives you some traffic, some friends and an easy post for the week!
As I was trying to think of something fun to do for my list today I decided to tell you about me by numbers…ready?
The Top Ten Numerical Things About Myself
{wow. are you so excited?!}
1. ONE
me and my brother
I have ONE brother. And when I was little my mom would always say, “This is the only brother you’ll ever have. You need to treat him right.” And sure enough, even my husband doesn’t have sisters, so I don’t even have a brother-in-law! My little bro is indeed my only brother!
2. TWO
I went to TWO elementary schools. When I was in 3rd grade they redistricted our county and it made me go to another school. What’s weird is when I got into middle school, they redistricted again (re-redistricted-ed?) and a bunch of the kids I had left in my first school were sent to my middle school. It was strange to see kids I had been friends with in 3rd grade walk in my class as 8th graders—most of them I was never friends with again.
3. THREE
Speaking of elementary school, when I was in 3rd grade, I had the MEANEST teacher ever. Her husband was the principal and he would bring her ice cream during class. There is just nothing worse than watching your teacher eat ice cream in front of you.
4. FOUR
My husband is the oldest of FOUR. All girls.
My dad is the oldest of FOUR. All girls.
I don’t know. That just seems weird. And even weirder? My sister-in-law is about to have her FOURth child—a girl. To go with her boy-girl-girl trio she already has. That’s weird, right?
5. FIVE
I may have told you about my FIVE best friends–the sisterchicks? Yeah, maybe I mentioned them once or twice. I met Staci and Mandi when I was 4. Mandy about that same time. Kristen in 3rd grade and Becky in 6th. Even through all the different paths we’ve taken, we’re still the best of friends. Just knowing they are there for me is a comfort and strength.
6. SIX
I have SIX toes on my left foot.
Just kidding.
7. SEVEN
OK. This one is a stretch but I’ve been wanting to show you this picture. Remember, I told you about us moving to a new church campus? Well, this is a picture of my husband and me leading worship for over 100 4 year olds on our last Sunday. Aren’t we cute?
You know, Les and I were in full-time ministry the first SEVEN years of our marriage. We traveled to camps and churches as special guests for kids’ events and programs. We helped plant a church in Orlando and were then children’s pastors of another church in Birmingham. This picture is SO exactly representative of those ministry years.
I know we’ll continue to do the same kind of stuff at this new campus, but it was still another good-bye to add to our ministry list.
8. EIGHT
I can only remember EIGHT of my childhood birthday parties: one at Stone Mountain, one at mini-golf where my friend gave me my one and only Barbie, my 4 year old spend-the-night-party (my parents were insane), my 16th birthday, the one at the Skating Rink where we tied balloons to our belt loops and ponytails, the one at White Water where I got my first puppet, the one with the Miss Piggy invitations and the one at the ice cream shop where I had my hair curled.
9. NINE
I’m reading NINEΒ books right now. That can’t be smart. Or does it just show I’m super smart? Ahem.
Wanna know what they are?
10. TEN
The 10th most popular post of ALL TIME on my blog is: Presents Without Bows Are Just Wrong {A Giftwrap Bow Tutorial}. And you know what’s funny about that? It was the first tutorial I ever wrote and I actually googled “how to write a tutorial” and came across this fabulous post at Bella Dia, How to Write a Tutorial (Also, How To Make a Daisy Chain). Isn’t that funny that I can remember that? And how cool is the internet that I could just search and find that exact same post again?!
Now wasn’t that random?
:: :: ::
OK, let’s see your genius! Just put it in a Top Ten list! LINK to me in your post. Then PASTE your url below. Now for the fun–start LOVIN’ on the rest of the participants–can you just visit 3 of them? Leave a comment on 2? Tweet 1? Use the hashtag #toptentues when you tweet your own? RT one or two you see in your stream? Stumble a really good one? Or just click on all of ’em without reading so everyone can say, “WOW! I got a lot of hits today!” Just kidding. You can do whatever you want! π

Miranda says
Random, maybe π but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I can’t believe you’ve been doing top ten lists for over 2 years! I’ve only been linking up for about 2 months but its one of my favorite link-ups.
Alexander says
But I don’t hold them in the in box. Using SpeedFiler (pbuh) I file as normal once haivng read and flagged them. I then work my way through the Follow Up’ in Outlook as and when I (a) have time and (b) need to. Thus the emails are always there in the right folders with the relevant other emails etc and when I’ve dealt with it I simply Clear Flag’ and the email is already filed with the reply I sent etc.
Tonya @ Live the Adventure says
Nine books at once? Wow. I have a hard time focusing on one. π
Kari says
That picture of you and your brother is SO cute!!! And that’s neat that you remember that many birthday parties. I remember ALL of mine! (But I was only allowed to have two parties–at age 8 and 13.) LOL Congrats on two years of link-ups. I really enjoy doing these each week!

Chris Posted on Why, in this long and vibrant diicsusson, has nobody mentioned Alias? It is THE perfect shot at creating a female superhero movie that has ZERO baggage attached to it.Wonder Woman will always have to contend with too-many-cook syndrome, as it’s one of the big three DC properties. The Marvel characters, as was pointed out, have to contend with their male name-sakes.But Alias has everything you could ask to take a no-risk shot at making an amazing movie. The character is new enough that everyone has to be introduced to her to some degree, mainstream and in-the-know-nerds, yet she’s squarely built into the Marvel universe now.She has the best of all hero journey stories she doesn’t want to be a hero, tries her best to do right without her powers, and then in the thick of things steps up to the plate. And to a certain degree, you’re not selling people on the idea of a superhero movie, but a thriller where the hero just happens to be able to, later in the movie, fly and toss cars around. And, cameo, Power Man.Also, Thor = awesome. It has to be remembered Thor was the great equalizer. For some (women readers apparently) the realistic human storylines were enough, but for some (male readers apparently) there was always one small problem with the Marvel Universe it didn’t have Superman. But damn if it didn’t have Thor (first person to say Sentry gets disowned.)

I like this list. Esp. the 9 books. I’m always reading too many books, and often don’t finish them all : (
Fathima says
, Hey mom, she looks like you . Your glasses are way more coeolr than mine though, (I personally don’t think we resemble, but I took it as a compliment, because you are so cool. )Well, since I’m new to knitting, I need to start a stash, so what the heck, I’ll enter. The only thing I’ve bought was 100% cotton yarn for dishcloths. My mom did give me access to her old acrylic yarn she had stored up for plastic canvas. I just finished my first dishcloth, almost done with a second, and getting ready to start a new pattern for a dishcloth. Eventually, I want to do a shawl and learn how to make socks. I have no earthly idea what blocking is yet. Guess I need to read up more.

Love this list! You and Les are so cute leading worship! Also? I *just* used that bow tutorial for my friend Dani’s son’s party on Saturday. I did it all out of the comics and I loved it!

Number 6 definitely made me curious, until I read on.
I can’t believe you only had ONE Barbie! That’s insane… I think I had at LEAST 20 or more, and all the accessories to go with them, including a house my parents built using scraps from all our relatives (i.e. my aunt’s wallpaper, my gma’s carpet, etc.). I can’t imagine childhood without Barbies! LOL
oh amanda says
I don’t know why…I just never had Barbies! I was more Care Bears I guess…

How come I don’t remember those birthday parties (except that lovely 16th one, of course)? SURELY, I was there π
oh amanda says
I don’t think you were at White Water (for some UNKNOWN reason)…you don’t remember my spend-the-nite? The one with the bubbles? And the sandbox? And where Daddy said if anyone else talked *I* would get a spanking? LOL!
What about the skating rink? With the balloons? Stacey Coates was there!

Posted on Dammit. I have long been convinced, for rensoas unknown to me, that Rumours’ came out in 1975, the year that I was born. Kind of disappointed to realize I was wrong about that.Oh, well, I’ve still got Born to Run.’Love your discussion of the album, totally agreed. There are some great singles ( Dreams is pretty close to a perfect song for me), but put together it’s greater than the sum of its parts.I love your music writing, I hope to see more of these!

I totally want the stage set your church has! And 100 four=year-olds?!

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

Posted on I love Alias’ but I’m not sure it works outside the cotexnt of an established Marvel Universe. It gets a lot of its meaning from the way she’s related to characters we already know.I like the Ms. Marvel idea but I feel like they’d really have to rebuild the character from the ground up. Pull in the air force backstory and the Captain Marvel legend but make her the POV character. Spider-Woman is another one that might work. But honestly, I’d just be happy to see them do a good job with the women in the team movies. I got interested in X-Men because of the movies and two big reasons were Rogue as the POV-character, and Jean as a competent grown-up non-bimbo-looking female Neither one of them is characterized much like they are in the comics, but they worked to help me feel like I had a stake in the story rather than just having Wolverine and Cyclops to look at (which didn’t suck either). I don’t know that I’d get that from any of the current Marvel movies though Pepper is the closest. In DC, I think you could do a Huntress solo movie; after Wonder Woman, she’d be my next choice and honestly it might create a better movie.
