In my own life and on my personal blog, I’ve gone through an time management-household management awakening of sorts. It started last year when I began to wake up before my kids. I know, it doesn’t sound like a big step but for me it was huge! As I get closer (only closer, mind you) to organizing my day and getting more done in my house and in my kids’ lives the more I’ve had to let go of the pressure of my blogs.
I say “the pressure of my blogs”, and not “my blogs” because I am NOT letting go of them. I’m just letting go of the pressure to write every single solitary day. I’m letting go of the pressure that a new post has to be up or you might leave me! 🙂 And I’m settling into writing really really good stuff that will encourage and equip you.
Impress Your Kids is different than a crafty, educational or even mommy blog because it’s all three rolled into one! I don’t want to just write about my kids riding bikes, or coloring a picture or about their ABC’s. I want to encompass all these things. I want to be a site that helps you keep God’s Word as a central piece of your life. I want to be *gulp* an example for a family that intertwines love for Jesus with love for the outdoors, learning, crafting and reading!
I say all this to say (in case you haven’t noticed) my posting is and will be sporadic. Not sporadic because I don’t know what I’m doing but sporadic because some weeks I have SIX amazing ideas to share with you and sometimes only one or two. And that’s because I only post about things my kids and I have actually done or experienced. I know that quality posts are much better than quantity. Right?!
Along with this, here are some plans and ideas I want to share with you–and would love your input:
1. Impress Your SPONSORED Kids
Anyone realize I didn’t do Impress Your SPONSORED Kids this month? Well, it’s because I found out that Compassion International hosts a Write To Your Sponsored Kid Day every month–the 2nd Friday of every month. So, I decided to merge my IYSK with their letter writing club! Mark your calendars for April 8th and join 1000’s of families as we write to our sponsored kids! I’ll be keeping a linky up and hope you’ll add your adventures, crafts and letter-writing ideas for others to see!
2. Easter
Resurrection Sunday is April 24! That’s one month from today! This year, I have it in my heart to make Easter as exciting as Christmas. Well, I don’t know if I can pull that off, but I really want to make it as meaningful as possible. So, I’ve got 2 big things coming up–one is weekly posts to help you and your kids focus on Jesus’ resurrection. The other is a giant linky for all of you to post YOUR Easter/Resurrection ideas past and present. Then we can all learn from each other! So, get ready–that’s coming in the next few days!
3. Search & Organization
I’m going to organize all our posts a little better for you–I was thinking by Scripture and age-group. Any ideas? What would help you search our site?
Is there anything else I can do for you? Any other way to make Impress Your Kids better? Anything you’re looking for? Please feel free to leave a comment or email me at amanda {at} impressyourkids {dot} com.
Thank you for being a part of Impress Your Kids! Each visit, link and comment blesses me to the core!
Stay connected with us on facebook, twitter or subscribe in a feedreader or via email!
Age group organization would be great. I have “older” kids
(5 1/2 and 7) so a lot of simpler stuff doesn’t work for me. Thanks!
I’m really wanting to make Easter exciting for what it is (Jesus not the bunny) this year too so I’m glad that I’ll have wonderful inspiration! Quality is definitely better than quantity in the blog world (in my humble opinion). I’d rather read something that will really be helpful than lots of little tidbits of nothing. That being said, I think my blog probably falls more into the second camp so maybe they’re both good ;).
LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of by scripture and by age. Maybe even some sort of linky or forum where others could share what they have done for that Scripture or age group? Then we would have everyone’s awesomeness in one place.
Amanda, your work on this blog continues to be amazing – such a blessing!!! Thank you for everything you do and everything you share!!! I think you’re practically perfect in every way! 😉
