Pinterest: Top Ten {Tuesday}

Top Ten {Tuesday}

Why is the internet such an adorable black hole?

First it was message boards.

Then blogs.

Then myspace.

Then twitter.

Then tumblr.

Then facebook.

Then etsy.

And now?

Pinterest.

The deliciousness of Pinterest cannot be told. I know it kinda looks like PINE TREE EST or PIN TREE REST. But it’s really a mashup of:

PIN + INTEREST

It’s kinda like a virtual bulletin board. You find things that INTEREST you and then PIN them up on your own boards. But with some social media thrown in.

So, since I’ve been addicted to it these past 2 weeks, I thought I’d share some of my pins, tips and other

RANDOM THINGS I LOVE ABOUT PINTEREST

1. The Front Page

This is what you see when you log on. Just a big beautiful group of pictures–some clothes, art, food, photography or quotes. You can just scroll down for hours and see the awesomeness (at least what others think is awesome) or you can start clicking. And that’s where it gets fun.

2. How far does the Rabbit Hole go?

puffball tutorial

Let’s say I’m scrolling and find this awesome tutorial to make puffballs on a fork! (Where was this when Asa had an obsession?!) I click it and I see it’s part of someone’s whole board called CHILDREN (not very creative but…)–all fun stuff she pinned for kids.

pinterest

In which I find this awesome ART DESK!

But when I click that, guess what? I see it was originally pinned by someone else on their KIDS board.

And this is where I find these Ikea spice racks that have been re purposed into book shelves! Which is exactly what I’ve been looking for!

Do you see how this can get addicting?

3. Share

When I see something fun on Pinterest I can RE-PIN (as mentioned above) or LIKE it. Or I can also share it on facebook, twitter, embed it on my blog, comment on it it or email it. HELLO. Could we be any more connected?

4. And Share Alike

But if I find some goody-ness on another site…say, oh, I don’t know: ETSY. I can just click PIN IT (which I’ve just dragged/drug onto my toolbar) and look! up pops a little window!

I can click the picture I want to PIN and voila! It’s added to one of my boards.

5. My Boards.

Of course, I can categorize my pins and tag them for ease. My boards {categories} are: Stuff I Should Copy, Party-ness, Yumminess, Kiddos, Home Is Where, Book Worm and Cute Miscellany.

6. So what’s the point?

I don’t know! It’s just an adorable and fun way to find cute stuff (or important stuff. I’m sure someone pins important things. I just choose cute.) and to find the people who like the same stuff as you.

7. And now one of my favorite pins:

8. And another one I want in my backyard:

pinterest

9. And here’s one I’m saving for an arty birthday party:

pinterest

10. Last one, I promise:

So, what do you think? Ready to start pinning? Friend me if you jump into the rabbit hole!

{above pics are clickable…will take you to the original pins!}

{ps–looks like pinterest is in beta. it says you need an “invite”, i just put in my email and it sent me an invite. so, try that and see what happens! If that doesn’t work, send me your email and I’ll try to invite you!}

  1. Once again…you’re all up on the latest and greatest internet trends!!

I’ve never heard of this, so I guess I better go check it out :)

  2. I am nuts about Pinterest. I get so much inspiration from the home decor photos.

  3. AMANDA! I don’t need to spend any more time SUCKED into the internet! What are you DOING to me?!?

  4. I don’t know if I can handle yet another online addiction. LOL.
But I do know that I want those road signs… and the cupcakes… and the Clever Poster. haha.

  5. I’m very excited to check this out! But SCARED………. because this definitely sounds like something I will become very addicted to.
Thanks for sharing (I think….I may be cursing your name later after I’m addicted)!!!

  6. Oh lawd, have mercy! Like I need anything else to suck up time online. But this looks SOOOO fun! LOL

  7. Wow, that is serious black hole material. I’m not sure my DIY cleaner post qualifies as “FUN,” but few of my posts do. And, oh, I never finished my other post, but good to know for the future.

  8. I sent in a request for an invite last week already after seeing some of someone else’s Pinterest pages. Definitely looks addicting but yet somehow helpful for keep tracking of all the great inspiration available on the internet.

At any rate, looks like they’re full for at least a little while so my trip into the rabbit hole is going to have to wait :)

  9. How did you do it? I was told that I needed an invitation and that it is in private beta testing. I am on some sort of waiting list. :-(

    • I guess it is…when I saw it the first time it said, “Get an invite” and I entered my email address. I had an email from them w/in a day at least. Maybe they are just doing it by #s? Like a certain number at a time? I have no idea! Try again!

  10. Great Post! This site looks like a lot of fun, I can’t wait to check it out! :P
I especially love the art cupcakes!

  11. I had forgotten about Pinterest. I had seen it on another blog and wanted to check it out. Thank you for the reminder.

  12. Oh dear…I don’t even have a tumblr account yet! *always behind the times*
    Love that art desk!

  13. I love this! I totally have to check them out. I saw this on another blog but had no idea what it was. Thanks for teaching how to use it ;)

  14. I sent a request for an invite. I’m still waiting.
    I Love it, great photo’s!

  19. Lots of cute stuff! Never heard of this. I totally want that sign in my yard too, though. :)

  20. I am on Pinterest too but I forget to pin things, except for the things I see on Gilt or HauteLook. It is fun though. Did you see the pin of the giant rabbit? I loved that!

  21. My husband would say the last thing I need is more inspiration – but looks like I’m going to have to dive in.

  22. How in the world do you find all these things?!?! Great…another time sucker :)

  23. THank You Amanda for the invite. I’m in now and have my own Pinterest boards! I’m LOVING IT!!!
I will go and follow you now. My link is http://pinterest.com/amyjacob/ if you want to check mine.
    Thanks……Love ya!
    Amy

  24. Really? You Internet crack pusher, you. My husband says thanks Amanda, I thought I never saw my wife when it was just FB, etsy and bloggie stuff to read and write. Pinterest? I may never sleep again, much less spend time with the hubbers:). Lol

  25. yum. I love pinterest. I thought I loved tumblr, but no. I don’t. Not anymore…now I only have eyes for pinterest….

  26. So it is a bit like Tumblr but all on one ‘board’. Nice.

    I like.

  27. I dont have time for pinning. LOL

IS your sons name Asa, too?

  28. Hey… can you send me a pinterest invite? :)

    • I like using Pinterest to keep track of things I find innsriipg, color combinations I enjoy, tutorials for blocks, or your link to “how to block a quilt”, I pinned that. I’ve wondered about the copyright issues, but I am copying work that is online already, and it links back to the original place it came from, so I think, and I could be wrong, but I believe that it will ultimately give the people whose work I admire, greater exposure as people see my pins and discover new artists or ideas from them. Perhaps I’m being naive here, but I don’t see the downside. As for “drama” or somehow feeling inferior due to someone’s pins, I don’t get that at all. There is no drama to be had with the way I approach it, but then again, maybe I just see what I want and the rest doesn’t make an impression.
