Impress Your Kids: A 2010 Recap

happy new year

The last day of 2010? Is that even possible? Oh, time goes by too too fast when you are a parent! As a little recap to this year (or an introduction if this is your first time here), I have compiled the first sentence of the first post of each month (did that make sense?). I linked them to the original post in case they are so enticing you have to read them! And I gave a little of my current comments about each post below it.

I hope you are reminded of the great year we’ve had here—or get a glimpse into the fun we have around here!

I’ve got the Christmas decorations packed, the New Year’s resolutions whispering in my ear and lots of fun New Year’s party ideas filed away.

Oh, this is my Gingerbread Party post! I love the idea of a playdate-Christmas-party-gift for your kids’ friends. We didn’t do anything for the kids’ friends this year. *sigh*

It has taken me a whole month to even begin my New Year’s goal of waking up before my kids.

This is a post about praying for your kids–with some really good resources, including a printable prayer calendar. Wow, I need to take this to heart again.

When I was a new mom and living far away from family and friends (well, three hours), I discovered a messageboard for moms with kids born the exact month and year of my little girl.

Oh, a whole post dedicated to our little Blog Frog community! I have to admit, I’ve let that poor little place get neglected. In fact, I was going to start a New Year’s discussion and it says the community is not found. Now there’s a lesson in “use it or lose it”! {Should I start a new one?}

Last year, I heard about Resurrection Eggs for the first time – and I thought it was a neat idea, but that my boys were too young to understand the Resurrection of Christ, even with the visual aids that the eggs supplied.

A great book review and Easter/Resurrection idea (along with an awesome crafty craft) by Leigh!

Have you heard of Silly Bandz?

Hee, hee! Who hasn’t? The kids got Veggie Tales Silly Bandz for Christmas. Even Asa likes them! This post was just before I went to the Dominican Republic with World Vision. And no, the post isn’t really about Silly Bandz…more about parenting. As usual.

This is a picture of Lydia reading The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear to Asa.

Oh, I love that picture. And I love seeing my kids read together. I complied a huge list of Summer Reading Programs and all the fun prizes your kids get when they read!

Hiking is a huge part of summer camp!

This summer we did a fun Summer Camp series. This post was a cool idea by Leigh about a city-hike!

One of the first scriptures I memorized as a little girl was Psalm 40:1, “I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.”

My daughter collected almost 300 pairs of shoes for a ministry called Shoes 2 Share. This verse was pounding in my head while we celebrated her achievement.

My first child was born to us almost 4 years ago and as new parents, we have been trying our best to impress her with God’s love and His Word.

You must click this post. It’s a beautiful miracle story by one of our regular contributors, Vanessa from Silly Eagle Books. Gorgeous.

Well, I’ve finally updated you on all our “lost” ABC scriptures and crafts!

This was the last post in our ABC scripture craft series. It’s all finally documented! You know what, though? I was kinda thinking about starting a new one with Asa…

If you’ve been reading this blog for long you know my main passion in life is to raise my kids for the Lord.

It is. I try and try. This post is an open-hearted cry for all the reasons I DON’T work hard at raising them for God.

One of the first things my mom said to me after I announced I was pregnant was, “I’m so glad you’re going to be a mother!”

This is a guest post I wrote at Motherhood…Your Way. I love it because it reminds us that being a mother is really a sisterhood!

So, that’s a little insight into 2010 at Impress Your Kids! Thank you for the amazing journey this year has been. We’ve grown by leaps and bounds. I’m looking forward to the creativity, the community and the growth of this blog in 2011!

Happy New Year!
