cute felt diy stocking from Nestle
One of my very favoritest (is that a word?) gifts to give is stocking stuffers. I just love pouring out a big stocking and letting all the stuff fall on the floor. When I was little Mama and Daddy always put an apple and an orange in our stocking. It always reminded me of Laura Ingalls. Except I don’t think she actually got an orange for Christmas. I think she got a penny. Anywhoo.
I usually fill the kids stockings up with little things—crafty kits from Michael’s, funny pencils and yes, candy. But this year I want to do themed stockings. For Lydia I want to do ballet. There is the cutest ballet store near us and it was overflowing with adorable ballet stuff–ornaments, leg warmers, books, wrap around sweaters, t-shirts and tutus.
For Asa? I’m thinking cars. Wouldn’t it be fun to fill the whole stocking up with different kinds of cars? Matchbox cars, Disney’s Cars, wooden cars, those cute little people cars and oh-my-goodness-how-much-would-he-love-these Buzz & Woody cars?!
For my husband, it’s a little harder. We’re not giving gifts to each other this year. It’s just pointless. We don’t need anything. And I’d rather spend our money on blue plastic. But I would like him to have something fun to open on Christmas. Maybe I could do a TV theme. Right now we’re watching the first season of The Big Bang Theory(Oh, how I love Sheldon Cooper! I think we watched 4 episodes in a row last night). Oh! Maybe I could do a Big Bang Theory themed stocking!
OK. So it’s a little weird. And totally UN-Christmasy. But you have to admit that would be kind of fun!
{Also, I would be remiss to not link to my sisterchick Jessie and her post about Stocking Stuffers that give more! My kinda gifts!}

I love stockings! My kids are getting pajama pants, a dvd my son who is a boy scout this year is getting a lot of the stuff he needs to camping (mess kit, compass, silverware, headlamp flashlight, etc.) I’m having a ball with it!

My family hasn’t done stockings for years, but when I was a little, my favorite item was always the eatables. Yes, I think with my stomach when I’m excited. 😉
Kathy @ House of Hills says
Love the stocking. Always end up spending more on the stocking stuffers than most everything else. Craziness.
What do I want in my stocking? Hmmm… jewelry would be nice. Something simple. Pretty sure I won’t get that. I’ve never wanted it before. I know I will be getting a new wallet since I bought it for myself. I also know I’ll be getting some Mary Kay stuff – also bought it for myself. I’ve found that’s the easiest way to fill it with what I want. LOL!
FYI – we just watched all three seasons of Big Bang Theory over the last month or so. Often multiple episodes a night. HYSTERICAL! I don’t know why, but it’s REALLY funny.

Great, here I was thinking I was (almost) done shopping and you go and remind me I have to stuff my husband’s and my stockings. Actually I have a narrow grilling cookbook I’m putting in my husband’s; I also usually put candy in our stockings; last year I gave myself lipstick. Hmmm, I’ll have to think about this!

That is my favorite part each year is the stockings. I still have my stocking from when I was a kid that I use every year lol.
I would love to have a new Digital SLR camera. My old camera is broken.

I love stockings too! Growing up we would get a TON of stuff in our stockings…they would be so full that they couldn’t even hang on the fireplace! 😉 My hubby’s family never did much for stocking stuffers so I usually pick some stuff up here and there and then just give him a bag that he can add to and then put in my stocking when I’m not looking. But this year my mom is going to be with us so I am sure to have a stocking filled with lots of fun stuff! Useful things like toothpaste and toothbrushes, fun things like movies or cds, and totally nonsensical things that she picks up from the dollar store. (One year the biggest hit was super cheap nerf like guns) It will be like a box of chocolates…I’ll never know what I’m going to get!

It has never occurred to me to do theme stockings but I love the idea.

i think a Glee-themed stocking would be fun! Of course my ideal stocking would be filled with 12 restaurant gift cards (nothing fancy, just so we could do one date night per month).
I love that y’all are watching BBT Season 1. We are too. We started the third disk of Season 1 last night. My friend owns the Season 2 on DVD, so she’s letting us borrow it. Hopefully we’ll finish up Season 1 tonight & start on Season 2. Did you know that up until about a month ago, Leonard & Penny were couple IRL? BAZINGA!

Hi Amanda! I am also doing a stocking theme this year. For my oldest daughter (4), Carrigan I am doing Rapunzel theme and for my youngest daughter (2) Camdyn I am doing Toy Story. Both of their favorites at the moment. My husband and I also don’t exchange presents so I was thinking maybe a mickey theme or something with woodworking. These are both things he loves. I will probably do mickey since that is something i know about(unlike woodworking!)

Oh I love stockings! When I was a kid dumping our stocking out after we had opened all of our gifts was like icing on the cake. Mom never put anything “major” in them. She just got us little happies like pens/pencils, lipstick, socks, our fav candy, earrings etc! It was great. I could not wait to see what all was stuffed in my stocking.
Now that I am grown and get to stuff my kids stocking with I do the same thing my mom did! My fav thing to do is go to the dollar store and just load up on “junk” and cram it in there! It’s funny how they usually end up liking the “junk” better than the “real” presents! lol
In my stocking I would love some giftcards to maybe WalMart, Ebay, Vera Bradley or something like that! I love to go to the after Christmas sales and having “free” extra cash would make my day!!! 🙂
