This isn’t an official part of our How To Be a Super Hero series, but seriously—HOW CUTE ARE THESE??
Continuing with our super-hero theme from church, we made super hero mini-costumes this week! OK, they were just superhero cuffs, but to the kids? They were full costumes!
I just grabbed our craft foam sheets and sliced them straight down the middle to form 2 long rectangles. Then I found our sticky glitter craft foam (which is the most fun ever and always 70% off after any holiday!) and cut out some designs to stick to the middle of the new rectangles. I wrapped these around the kids’ wrists and stapled them together! Instant super hero cuffs!
We used them to help us memorize a verse. Try to imainge these in your best super hero poses, ok?
I {fists on hips in classic Super Hero pose)
Can Do Everything {stretch arms out wide, hands in fists}
By The Power {make big muscles}
of Christ {put arms together to form a cross at the wrists, hands in fist}.
He {hands in air, straight above head, hands in fist}
Gives Me {both fists on chest}
Strength. {big muscles}
Philippians 4:13
We must have said the verse and done the motions 25 times yesterday. Lydia was flying around and posing in between each word. Asa just put on his super hero face (above) and threw his cuffs to the ground. But still, he shouted out the verse.
It’s a perfect verse for us because Asa’s new favorite phrase is “I can’t!”. I don’t even know where he got that from! He says it for everything–when he doesn’t want to walk, can’t pick up something heavy or doesn’t want to put away his toys. And of course, this verse is just another layer of bravery and self-control for Lydia!
If you wanted to make this even more of a real costume, you could make some cool shin guards/cuffs with craft foam, grab a piece of shiny fabric for a cape and make a little felt mask. Here are some cute tutorials I’ve found online:
Super Easy Super Hero Cape from Craftzine
Child’s Felt Mask Pattern & Tutorial from Hazelnuts
Super Hero Birthday Party from Living Locurto {includes patterns for cape and mask}
Up, up and away!
