Well, I’ve finally updated you on all our “lost” ABC scriptures and crafts! A through M was pre-blog and it was really fun to revisit those verses and crafts. *whew* I’d definitely do some of them differently now. But I’m also amazed at how many of those verses we still talk about and repeat today!
As I was looking through all my pictures and all the ABC crafts we have online, I realized there were no letter Z crafts! Hmph. Probably because attaching a verse to the letter Z is almost impossible. Yes, you can find verses about Zion. Or even Zerubabbel. But what does that mean to a child? To an adult, even?
We went with the old standby: Zaccheus. He’s a classic Sunday School character. The little man who was too short to see Jesus. Of course, we don’t know if he was short. He just couldn’t see. Maybe he was just the kinda guy that made things happen–so he scaled a tree when he wanted to see.
Regardless, it’s a fun story and a great Z word! We chose a verse about Jesus coming to Zaccheus house. There’s nothing so special about the verse. I don’t see Lydia frantically quoting it when she’s in need of some encouragement. It’s not the kind of verse you might write at the bottom of a card. But here’s what I like about it–it’s Jesus talking. He says, “Zaccheus! Come down at once! I must stay at your house today!” (exclamation points mine!) I love the idea that Jesus wants to spend time with Zaccheus. I love that he says, “I MUST!”
I want my kids to understand that Jesus DESIRES to be with them. He wants to hang out with them! He loves being with them! It doesn’t matter if they are short, tall, mean or nice–Jesus just wants to be with them. In fact, in his heart of hearts, he MUST be with them. What a beautiful truth to know!
Oh, and I guess you want to know about the amazing craft? I cut out the letter Z and we drew zigzags on them! Well, I drew zigzags. Lydia just scribbled. One day I’ll start making up creative crafts!
