1. Shrimp. Did you know they will steam the shrimp at a grocery store with either cajun spices or Old Bay seasoning? It’s free. And easy. And SO YUMMY. We bought 3 pounds for Les’ sister and family when they were visiting last week. It was 4 adults and 4 kids under 5 years old. And we ate every single one.
2. Guacamole. From Rosa Mexicano. This is the restaurant Jessie, Candace, Brandi and I ate…well, we didn’t eat the restaurant. But we would have if it had been made out of their guacamole. They bring a huge cart to your table with avocados and spices. Then they mix it at your table. Divine! {Oh, I just found the recipe!}
3. Fried Fish. When we were in Savannah a few weekends ago, my husband’s grandmother made some fried crappy crappie (caught by her friend) and hush puppies. I can’t tell you the last time I had fried food. And this was so amazingly worth it. Lydia, my almost vegetarian even ate it!
4. Deviled Eggs. I like deviled eggs. I do. I’d probably even like the pre-made deviled eggs at the grocery store. So, for easter I made some cute ones. The recipe was from Family Fun and were supposed to look like this:
They ended up looking like this:
But still delish!
5. Waffle, Fried Chicken, Bacon & Egg Sandwich. With cheese grits on the side!
I just don’t know what to say about this. The title says it all. I had a yummy brunch with Staci and Mandi (and Lydia and Asa) last week at our favorite restaurant. They recently started serving breakfast. I decided to go for the gusto and get the most interesting thing on the menu. And yes, you pour syrup on it.
6. Chocolate Gingerbread Cookie.
I’ve mentioned this cookie before because it is THE BEST COOKIE THAT HAS EVER LIVED. I bought 3. Gave the kids 1 to split and 2 for me. Ahem.
7. Popcorn with BUTTER.
This is our nightly snack. Les pops the corn on the stove with his Whirley Pop. (I kid you not.) And then we pour a small amount (I kid you not) of real butter on it.
8. Thai Crunch Salad from California Pizza Kitchen.
This is my favorite salad of all time. I’m copying the ingredients straight off the website: Shredded Napa cabbage, chilled-grilled chicken breast, julienne cucumbers, edamame, crispy wontons, rice sticks, peanuts, cilantro, julienne carrots, red cabbage and green onions tossed with lime-cilantro and authentic Thai peanut dressings.
Are you even believing that? If you haven’t had this yet, you must. And don’t get the half. Get the whole. You’ll eat every bit.
9. Pound Cake. Oh my. I can’t believe I almost forgot this one. It’s another Savannah favorite. Les’ grandmother makes the best pound cake EVER. She gave me the recipe but I wish I had taken a picture of the original because it said “sweet milk” for milk and “oleo” for shortening margarine. It was an old newspaper recipe she had cut out and taped to a recipe card.
The best part is I updated my facebook status about the pound cake while we were there. And Les’ brother-in-law gave it a thumbs up. That just shows you how awesome it is. He was sitting in Mexico jealous that I was having pound cake and he wasn’t.

The yummiest thing I had lately was Cake Balls. Seriously yum.
Also, I love guac.
I didn’t finish reading the post yet. I have to tell you.
Amanda dear, it’s Crappie, not Crappy.
My husband almost choked reading that.
LOL.

Crises averted… Off to find some peanut butter and saltines.
{I’m not sure if my list counts, since it’s not technically a “top ten,” but I linked up anyway and I’ll try again next week. 😉

In regards to #3, I’ll eat anything fried. My husband always jokes that if I could fry water, I would.
We got married in Savannah, and I swear that town has the best food I’ve ever eaten in my life. There are a handful of restaurants that I try to hit whenever we’re back there to visit family. They know how to cook in the South.

In addition to crappy being “crappie,” oleo is margarine, not shortening. That’s a term my mother-in-law always uses. Never heard her call it margarine; it’s always “oleo.” And did you know that originally margarine was white? Sometime in the 1940s they started adding coloring to it.
That’s your history lesson today from the boomer generation!
Loved your attempt at the deviled eggs. Bet your kids loved ’em.

Yum! All of it! I have a cheat for some “homemade” guac. Mash 2-3 avacados with a potato masher, add a little fresh salsa (the kind you find near the hummus in the deli), and voila! It’s yummy and so fast.

Hmmm. I think my favorite thing I’ve eaten in quite a while is Chopped BBQ Chicken Salad at California Pizza Kitchen. I love the black beans and the corn and the tomatoes. It’s all so incredibly yummy. I usually get the whole salad, but I can only eat about a quarter of it at a time. This is okay by me because it means I don’t have to worry about the calories involved.
