(uhm, not my toes.)
I hate shopping for shoes. HATE. I have been wearing the same easy shoes for way, WAY too long. I was hoping someone was going to buy me some shoes for Christmas so I wouldn’t have to shop for them. Instead, the last few days my husband and I have spent our time at about 12000 shoestores. As I walked up and down the aisles I liked nothing. Nothing. How is that possible? Am I suddenly the old lady who wears the same shoes from 45 years ago? Why don’t I like anything on the shelves?!
It’s the curse of the easy shoes! I’m stuck in a shoe rut! If I could, I would wear these purple Converse shoes for the rest of my life.
How awesome are those? Purple. Flat. Comfy. And a cute star on the side to boot. (Ha. That was shoe humor.) But as I started circling the Converse at Macy’s my husband let out a low, “STEP AWAY FROM THE CHUCK TAYLORS.” Hmph. Fine. I walked straight over to these adorable shoes from Keen…
Aren’t they sweet? I even like the orange! I actually tried them on in black. But I have to admit when I looked in the mirror I felt juvenile. And that’s the problem, folks. I like juvenile shoes. And rainbow colored shoes, apparently.
So, as we walked the mall, I decided to look around and see what everyone else was wearing. The majority of people are wearing boots. Kinda like these boots I found on Piperlime…
I cannot imagine wearing these. What am I? Santa’s elf?
So, I search for a more sophisticated boot. And here’s what I found:
Yeah, these are perfect. If you are Cat Woman! There is no way on God’s green earth that I could cram my toesies into that squishy little point and walk around on that miniscule popsicle stick in the back. (See?! I am an old grandma!! *sob*)
To further prove my point, I will show you the newest shoes on Piperlime. They are promoting these as the newest style you will want to rock this spring. Be amazed…
Oh, and by the way, you can get these for a mere $350. The day I wear these…well, that will be the same day I wear a gold lamΓ© mini skirt with a halter top and dye my hair platinum blond and wear pink lipstick.
So, obviously, I’m not a very adventurous shoe wearer. I decided to click through the comfortable, flat, granola (that’s what my husband calls them) shoes. What do you think of these from Eclipse?
I mean, they do look comfy. But what socks do you wear with them? And do you want to wear a shoe that is really only 75% there all winter?
Then I thought about going a little dressier but still flat. And I think maybe the flat dressy-thing is in right now because there was lots to choose from…
However I think I had this exact same shoe in 7th grade. Maybe the buckle was removable back then. You know, so I could replace it with a red bow or something.
Really, what I want is just a nice simple shoe. Like this shoe from Simple.
Hmmm…a flat purple sneaker. Which brings me back to point number one: I AM STUCK IN A SHOE RUT.
Oh, I wish it was summer and I could just wear my Adaras every day. Like last summer.
And probably the next summer and the summer after that and the summer after that and the summer after that…
Help me, friends! What’s your everyday jean-wearin’ comfy shoe that’s not too embarrassing or inappropriate?

Shoe pictures from Piperlime. No, they are not paying me. No, I didn’t ask if I could use their pictures. No, I didn’t link to each shoe. Sorry.

My vote is for Doc Martens. I seem to recall a post some time ago where Les said they were out of style (I could be wrong… my memory isn’t what it should be), but Doc Martens never go out of style. AND they’re comfortable. π
Otherwise, my vote is for the Chuck Taylor’s.

Oh my! You know I love my Docs!!!

I can’t see all your pics either. I am a simple shoe girl myself. I love flip flops in the summer and I wear Merrell clogs in the winter. I would like to be more adventurous, but comfort is essential and I don’t have tons of money to spend on a whole lot of shoes.

I will have to comment again when I am not on my iTouch so I can do links, but I wear boots. I have 2 pairs of shoes that look like boots and 2 pairs of full boots. Look into riding boots. They are typically flat and unpointy so you won’t look like catwoman.
Dang, once again I wish you lived closer so we could shop together. Although I am not allowed to buy any more shoes. P.S. I wore red Chuck Taylors yo my high school graduation. Love those things!!

Until it is just too cold to stand it anymore, I wear my Rockport sandals. After 4 spine surgeries, I’m ALL about comfort, and these are the best. But once it gets cold I resort back to wearing my plain ol’ navy or black flats. Or tennis shoes. My personal preference is barefoot, but they frown on that here at work.
Vanderbilt Wife says
During the winter, I wear boots when I’m dressier–I have a pair of black wedge boots (not as comfortable as I would like) and brown flat boots from Etienne Aignier. With jeans, I usually just wear tennis shoes. Mine are purple New Balances. π
Hey, I think the Chucks are your signature look. What’s wrong with that!?

Oh my gosh! You must be the only female I know who hates shoes. If someone gave me $1000.00 I would want to spend it all on shoes. Shoes make me “feel” good. I love weird shoes, basic shoes, open toed shoes, closed toed shoes, back open, back shoes, closed, etc… Have you ever gone to the Shoe Warehouse (I think that’s the name) next to Hobby Lobby in Roswell? I like to go there because it’s easy to find your shoe and try it on without bothering a salesperson. I also look for COMFORT in a shoe. Aerosoles are very comfortable. Hope you find something!!

Sad that I can’t see some of the pics.
Those boots look very painful, very very painful.
I pretty much live in either flip flops.. or my cowboy boots (which are wickedly broken in and comfy) or tennis shoes if I’m exercising π
TJ Maxx and Marshall’s have always been where I find neat shoes, for cheap.
I don’t get the strappy bondage sandal/wedge thingy either…
*sigh*
Maybe we need to follow some of the fashion girls around at Blissdom π

I have wanted purple Chuck Taylors for a LONG time!! I usually wear my good tennis shoes with jeans if I’m walking a lot and/or wearing my 23-lb 7mo. If I want to look slightly more grown-up, I’ll wear my slip-on Clarks. They’re comfy and casual, and I love slip-on shoes.

Ok, here are some cute riding boots on sale. Piperlime has a super easy return policy if buying shoes on line scares you.
http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=19850&vid=1&pid=703741&scid=703741002
or these : http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=19850&vid=1&pid=707978&scid=707978002
I like to wear mine with a skinny jean or legging tucked in. Which is really very comfortable in case it seems like it isn’t. There are a million and one pairs on sale at Piperlime right now.
Or you could try a ballet flat. Comfy and practical but stylish. Crocs makes a couple of cute ones. like this: http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=19850&vid=1&pid=682401&scid=682401012
Ok, I am just going to step away from the Piperlime. This is not good for my wallet.

You should check out the shoes at Ross. Yes, Ross. I have a hard time finding shoes I like because I am all about comfort. Why would I wear something that makes me hurt all day or something as unattractive as that black flat you posted. LOL!!

First time to your blog…gonna chime in with another shoe option. I need arch support. My fav-fav-favs even though they are ugly I guess are danskos. I have had these: http://www.zappos.com/dansko-professional-oiled-antique-brown-oiled since 2002 and they are my go to to feel good. (who is in a rut?) I have a black pair too. I also really love keens and recently have been turned on to J-41s. Good luck with the shoe search!
I’ll be back!

I actually have a pair of those Catwoman boots and you’re right, I’ve even had them stretched yet they still are amazingly painful.
So what happened to them? My teen daughter borrows them constantly.

I have a super-comfy pair of Keen sandals (which I can wear 90% of the time due to the fact of where i live:)). Now that I’ve worn Keen I am having a hard time wearing anything else, they are so comfortable. So I totally support any shoe decision that leads to wearing Keen. π
However, this year I gathered my birthday money and bought these -http://www.shoemall.com/product/Steve-Madden-Womens-Frencchh-Boot-Cognac-160571/ Now that I’ve broken them in, they are more comfortable to wear.
Be sure to let us know what you get!!!!
Oh!, and you don’t like shoe shopping???? Are you sure you’re female? π

Ok. I am right there with you on shoes. I actually gave those flops-ish shoes pictured at the very bottom to my MIL and mom a few Mother’s Days ago and they loved them and wear them all the time, too. Is it bad when I wear the same shoes as my mom and MIL??
I am wearing knock off uggs today and you can’t walk for ANYTHING with them in the snow. Just a warning. Not that I have to worry about snow much in AL, but I do today. but they are comfy. And UGGly. Just saying. I want some cute fuzzy boots terribly, but then you have to have skinny jeans/ legs and I am currently (or ever) in possession of those. Hmph. We’ll have to go shopping before BlissDom, for sure!!

I was JUST telling someone yesterday how I’m either bored or appalled with the shoes these days. I do actually have those catwoman boots, but I only wear them a few days a year (like today to work), so they aren’t very practical. I have some Naturalizers that I love, but I feel like Naturalizers are grandma shoes. However, I did get a compliment on them the other day at the bus stop when I was getting Livi, so I’ll hang on to them a little longer. And they are SO comfortable. Here’s something similar:

I’m not a very shiny person, but the pewter is not very loud & it does seem to dress up my jeans some. Of course, there is still the sock issue. My feet are currently frrreeeezzziiiing. I’m actually about to order some red Chucks, I think!
Leigh says
Crocs. I know you’re not a fan, but have you seen them lately?!? And who needs socks in the winter? You live in Atl… You never need to wear socks (look at me,trying to force my “no socks” policy on you…)!
MrsBranham says
Hahaha! As soon as I saw shoes, I wanted to read because unlike you I LOVE shoe shopping! Bellie and I always make sure we pass by the shoe section on our every-other-day trips to Target. And I’m the girl who wears shoes a size too small if they’re cute enough and didn’t have my size. Platform pumps= my FAVORITES.
So … Suggestions (although by now I hope you’ve already found something):
Try shoes on that don’t necessarily look comfortable. They may surprise you.
No socks with ballet flats or any shoe that has holes(READ: the Eclipse shoes). Basically, if the shoes doesn’t cover the top of your foot the way a sneaker would- no socks. (easy for me to say, I live FL.)
Uggs are actually cute on, and OH SO COMFY. I got a knock off pair at Old Navy that look great under pants or if you can rock skinny jeans (I can’t) over them. They look like this, but mine were $30 oh, and I fold them down so far. http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2950256?Category=&Search=True&SearchType=keywordsearch&keyword=ugg&origin=searchresults
OR maybe you could try some casual boots in Suede that are flat. Like these:

If I have to wear *shoes* then it’s usually my Keds black clogs that are…oh…10 years old (seriously) or my Thom McAn brown leather clogs that I bought at KMart…oh…10 years ago (and they rock…my brother, who is a total shoe snob, loved them)
But usually, I wear my black leather sandals. Year round. Ah, the South (except when we have weather like we have had lately)
