Nestle Family Holiday GIVEAWAY!

holiday desserts hello dolly bar

Our 10th Annual Sisterchick Party was last week. (Recap coming at some point before 2010, I hope.) The above picture is all our desserts. Yes, they are on the floor. Becky made Pioneer Woman’s Prune Cake, Mandi and Staci made Christmas Crack and there were about 12 other dishes I can’t remember in my sugar-induced fog. I brought my very favorite holiday dessert — what I like to call HELLO DOLLY bars! Is that so yummy? How could you not love something called Hello Dolly bars?! (They are also called Magic Bars or Seven Layer bars but honestly…) Anyway, I wanted to share the recipe with you, encourage you to make it, pretend you are eating it with me AND be entered to win a HUGE Holiday gift from Nestle!

HELLO DOLLY BARS

1 stick butter
1 cup of graham cracker crumbs
1 bag of chocolate chips
1 bag of butterscotch chips
1 cup of pecan halves/pieces
1 cup of shredded, sweetened coconut (I guess you don’t have to use sweetened, but why not?!)
1 can of sweetened condensed milk

Melt the butter and pour into a 9×13 pan. (Or whatever size you have.) Evenly spread the graham cracker crumbs on top. This will be your crust.

Layer the rest of the ingredients with cocount on top. (small caveat: when I was little, I remember making these and thinking that every ingredient was one cup each. But when I made these for my sisterchick party last week, I put the entire bag of chocolate chips on it instead of 1 cup. I’ll let you decide which one I think is the best way.)

Then pour ENTIRE CAN of sweetened condensed milk on top. Bake at 350 or so until it is nice and melty and cooked through. If the edges are brown, you have done your job well.

You MAY want to let them cool as they are bars and not meltaways. But if you can actually make yourself wait, you’re a stronger person than I am!

Is that delish or WHAT?! Well, Nestle is all about the holiday food traditions, so they are giving away a big gift basket incuding coupons for FREE Toll House chocolate chips (so you can make Hello Dolly bars) and cookie dough free coupons Carnation Evaporated Milk and Breakfast Essentials, Stouffer’s, Juicy Juice and Boost Kid Essentials, as well as products from Wonka and Rasinets. Also, a cute silver picture frame and a yummy Carnation holiday recipe guide. The prize value is around $40.

Now, if you wanna win: leave me a comment about oh, anything. Really. You can say PICK ME. But if you leave me a comment with your fave holiday dessert, I *may* be tempted to pick you first. Then if you want an additional entry you can tweet, facebook or send out a carrier pigeon to let someone else know about this fun contest! Nestle is also giving away tons of $50 giftcards away on their site this week—you might want to visit!

This is going to be a short contest, I’m going to end it on Sunday. That way Nestle can get the gift out to you ASAP!

Merry Christmas & Happy Hello Dolly Bars to you!

This post was somewhat sponsored by Nestle in that THEY are giving away this giant gift away. They are even shipping it for me. They offerend me a gift basket, too. But I am giving it away on Impress Your Kids today. They did not give me any other compensation, they didn’t give me any wording or advice in writing my post. I did it all by myself. Because I like chocolate chips.

CONGRATS to LINDA our winner!

    Hey Amanda!
I would love to win the gift basket of goodies:)
As far as holiday desserts, I recently found an easy cookie semi homemade recipe for yummy chocolate cookies that you make with brownie mix.

1 pkg (21.5 oz) fudge brownie mix
    1/4 cup flour
    1/4 cup vegetable oil
    3 Tbsp water
    2 eggs
1/2 cup chopped nuts ( I used almonds and they taste great)
1 cup chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, butterscotch chips, or M&Ms (I used a combination of the different M&Ms and loved it)

Combine all ingredients, mixing by hand. Bake until just set at 350 degrees about 9-10 minutes.

Oh Yes! Hello Dolly is right! OMG! Where is that smellavision that Rachel Ray is always talkin about! We can put a man on the moon for the love of all that is Holy why can’t I smell your picture!

My favorite holdiay dessert is probably a toss up between homemade fudge and cheeseball. I know cheeseball is not “really” a dessert, but round these parts we skip dessert for it!

Heres to hoping I finally win something and wishing you my dear Amanda a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

My favorite dessert is my peanut butter balls. Make them every year – this year was a quadruple batch!

  4. Katie @ Frugal Femina

I recently bought some generic chocolate chips and discovered I’m a brand snob for Nestle Toll House. I admit it. They’re just better. So this giveaway is right up my alley.

My favorite cookie recipe is here: http://frugalfemina.com/2009/12/mint-chocolate-chip-cookies-and-a-flirty-aprons-giveaway.html/

  5. Kathy Hill

Nestle chips are the only way to go. Totally a chocolate chip snob.

Just blogged about one of my Christmas favorites http://houseofhills.wordpress.com/2009/12/18/christmas-traditions-fudge-recipe/

I might just bring some to share on Sunday. :)

Oh, and buying the rest of the things to make Hello Dolly bars tomorrow – YUMMMMY

    PIck me! Pick me!

Here’s an easy favorite around our house … and even those little busy preschoolers can help make these.

    1 roll sugar cookie dough
1 bag bite-size candy bars (as in Snickers or Milky Way)

Easy peasy … pinch off just enough cookie dough to wrap around each piece of unwrapped candy. Place on a cookie sheet and bake at 375º until lightly browned, about 10-12 minutes. Place on rack to cool. Serve with a big glass of cold milk!

The candy melts inside the cookie so that when you bite into it … yum!

This recipe has totally replaced pumpkin pie in my book…Makeover Crunchy Pumpkin Squares. You don’t have to make it reduced fat, but we can’t tell a difference! These are SOOO good if they are still warm w/ whipped cream on top!!!
    Makeover Crunchy Pumpkin Squares :

1 can (30 oz.) pumpkin pie filling
1 can (12 oz.) fat free evaporated milk
    3 eggs
    1 pkg (18 1/4oz.) yellow cake mix
    2/3 cup chopped pecans
1 cup reduced fat butter ~ melted
1/4 cup fat free whipped topping

In a large bowl combine the pie filling, milk and eggs. Beat on med. speed til smooth. Pour into an ungreased 13×9 baking pan. Sprinkle with cake mix and pecans. Drizzle with butter. Bake at 350 degrees for 60-65 min. or til toothpick in center comes out clean. Cool completely. Top with whipped topping :) enjoy!!

Well I’m sure the HELLO DOLLY desert is delish but I don’t like coconut so I’m going to have to find a way to make it without it.
Otherwise, I love the Nestle mint chips….my husband is the cookie baker in our family and has made wonderful chocolate mint chip cookies for the cookie exchange I’m going to this Sunday. I have a great hubby….he’s making 6 dozen!

  16. Shari

I love Hello, Dolly bars, which is amazing because I hate coconut, but not in them! ;)

My favorite holiday dessert is my favorite dessert all the time — Pretzel Torte. With crushed pretzels, butter, sugar, cherry pie filling, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and cool whip, what’s not to love? ;)

  17. Cheryl F. {The Lucky Ladybug}

I’m look forward to trying Nestlé Crunch Snowball Cookies :) *Thanks* for the giveaway!

Those Hello Dolly Bars sound delicious! Thanks for sharing the recipe… My favorite holiday dessert is tres leches cake-with strawberries… we went to the bakery and got one for my son’s birthday (see post below) however I am trying to learn to make one as well since our family loves them so much. For Christmas Eve, we make cookies every year for Santa. This year, my daughter has decided to make Nestle Toll House chocolate chunk cookies.

I created a new confection this year. Have you seen those new brown sugar and cinnamon Ritz crackers? I made little sandwiches with those and Nutella, then dipped them halfway in white chocolate and added Christmas sprinkles. Very pretty and pretty good! I don’t have a name for them yet. Suggestions welcome!

PICK ME! ; ) I can’t just pick ONE holiday favorite! Must have, sugar cookies, must eat, peanut butter cookies with a Kiss in the middle, must share, peppermint bark, must make, fudge, must do, EAT!

Umm…are you adopting new sisters? ;) Sounds delish!

I used my last bag of Nestle Chocolate Chunks last night in an attempt to make these:

    http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/mint-thins-107762.aspx

It didn’t turn out right, though, they didn’t melt as smoothly as I had hoped. Oh well. Still yummy with the coating just smeared on. :)

Those Hello Dolly bars are my absolute favorite cookie too! Now you’ve made me hungry! :) Another holiday treat I really love is my mom’s 12-Layer Jello Salad…it’s really pretty and super yummy!

  25. Jeanna

If it has chocolate in it or even near it, I’m all for it! Today I’ll be making chocolate chip cookies, chocolate covered pretzels and oreos and, because I will have everything out and the bananas on the counter are on their last “peel”, I’ll be making banana bread.

  26. Jeni

I haven’t made Seven-Layer Bars in forever! My favorite Christmas dessert are these little spritz cookies my mom makes. They’re in a Christmas tree shape, and they’re very slightly almond flavored – SO yummy!

Those Hello Dolly bars sound to die for, but I also love Coca-Cola Cake. It’s so yummy!

And FYI…I was going to totally send out a message via Carrier Pigeons, but it’s hard to find them nowadays. I did find an article on raising them, but I’m pretty sure you’re contest will be long over by the time my birds are old enough to pass on the message. http://www.ehow.com/how_2076760_raise-carrier-pigeons.html Although maybe I should consider this in case someone else throws this out as an entry possibility!

    Oh well…just pick me. I tried hard…really, I did! :-)
