siblings love

Ever since Asa was a baby in the infant carrier, he has gazed at Lydia with adoring eyes. Lydia loves to kiss him, hug him and help him. I love hearing her run down the stairs in the morning yelling, “Aseeyyyy!” When Asa hears Lydia in the other room he jumps, screeches and starts signing “Lydia”.

I am amazed at the depth of their emotion for each other already. They are really the example of “love at first sight”! This is so what I want for them, though. I want them to be best friends forever. (ha! bffs!) I want them to always see their past tying the two of them close together for the future.

This morning they were playing together upstairs while I was downstairs. Suddenly, Lydia yelled, “MOMMY! MOMMY!” I ran upstairs thinking someone was hurt and Lydia said, “Asa messed up all my stuff!” And she was so cute and so not whiny that I just laughed and gave her a hug.

I said, “You know what? Asa is a baby. And for the next 2 years AT LEAST he will be messing up your stuff. He just doesn’t know how to play yet. So, you’re going to have to be a big sister and say, ‘It’s ok, Asa. I love you more than my toys!’

She smiled and gave Asa big kisses while he squealed and squealed. I know this will not be the typical tattling session when they are 7 and 9. But I can pray it is. And I can plant the seeds now. I can cultivate their love.

Lydia + Asa.
4ever.

That is just fantastic! My daughter and son are the same age-gap as yours – my daughter 2 years, 9 months older than my son – and I can already see this kind of friendship starting! David is only 6 months old, but no one can make him laugh like his sister can! And she loves to give him kisses and hugs, and she’s always concerned about him when he cries.

And I need to remember that line, so that I can teach Wendy to say, “It’s okay, David. I love you more than my toys/books/clothes/Cheerios.” :-)

I forgot to say, my friend Jodi (http://theyoungpages.com/jodis_blog/) taught me that great line about loving siblings more than toys! She’s a mom to FOUR girls so she oughta know! Love you, Jodi!
