I go to Disney World for my Disney Mom’s Panel training in 15 days! So, for the next few weeks I’m going to share my favorite 80’s vintage Disney World photos!
me, my brother, DreamFinder & Figment. Epcot. 1984.
This lovely gentleman my brother and I are standing with is DreamFinder and his pet magical dinosaur thingie, Figment from Epcot’s Imagination! Pavilion (That’s what it’s called now. Did it used to have a different name, Disney historians?). I remember spending what seemed like hours there…stepping on the musical floor, playing with the put-your-handprint-in-the-nails, watching the jumping fountains and going on the ride that introduced us to DreamFinder and Figment.
You can see that Figment was a puppet and DreamFinder has a false arm around him. I knew that’s what this was—but at the same time, I still thought this was the ACTUAL DreamFinder and Figment. I thought we were so famous and lucky to get our picture with them.
And it doesn’t hurt to mention my visor. Because it is awesome.
What’s your Epcot memory?
Figment plays a huge part in my EPCOT memories. I loved Journey into Imagination in its original (and second) incarnation. My kids, who have only seen the most recent one, love that one (we watch it on YouTube).
My worst EPCOT memory was at the Biergarten restaurant in Germany in the 1980’s. To this day, I still dislike German food!
The visor IS awesome!

Love it!! You were right, you were a cute kid!! 😉 My 10 year old came over and said “Looks like the Burger King” haha
I was looking at my Figment/Dreamfinder pic and I *think* it might be the same guy…my pic is from 1985 I think. Too funny! Obviously I am WAY older than you too! 😉
so cute! I don’t remember Epcot until middle school – and then I was fascinated just by visiting the different countries and shopping in each area. How typically middle school, right?
That photo brings back so many memories of me and my sisters. Love it!

FIGMENT!!! I loved Journey into Imagination! I think I had a little stuffed Figment when I was younger.
My favorite Epcot memory I think is having Christmas Eve dinner at Morocco in 2002. Seriously some of the best food I’ve ever had and it was just enchanting. Unfortunately after that it started POURING rain and lightning and they canceled the Christmas Eve service where LIEUTENANT DAN was going to read the Bible story!!! (My sister and I had been talking about seeing LIEUTENANT DAN for months and we were quite upset.)

What year was this? I was there in ’82 the week EPCOT opened. It was so cool! I loved the Imagination pavilion, and I had a stuffed Figment too. We were enthralled with the jumping fountains. I’m looking forward to the rest of your Disney retro photos in the next weeks.

I love Figment. In fact, my last trip there, I bought a Figment Keychain which is hanging on the window in my office at work. I love the original Journey into Imagination much better than the current one. But as long as Figment is there, I’m okay with it!
I don’t know what is my favorite Disney memory. I love them all because it’s such a Magical place and I’m happy just being there.

I still have a Figment bank in my office here.
I love that lil’ blue dragon!
OK. I have no clue who this is, but I vaguely remember the dragon thingy. Kinda.
Y’all are awesome to get your picture made with him, though! I remember thinking how lucky we were to get our picture made with ANYONE (prob. Pluto or someone) at Disney! 🙂
So much fun!

I loved the original Imagination – I wish my kids could have seen it. My old memory from Epcot is Horizons. I loved that – the way it was interactive and you would small the oranges. Cutting edge for those days.

My favorite EPCOT memory is easy to recall. It was my first trip and we went to get food. At the Land Pavillion, my mom decides to get on a line, not knowing what it was for. As it moves, we realize we are on line to go through the vegetable garden. I loved it and to this day, we were there last summer, we always make sure to take that ride and retell the story. Nothing can beat seeing how they grow pumpkins shaped like Mickey Mouse.
