Top Ten {Tuesday}: Boys Versus Girls
Posted by oh amanda on November 3rd, 2009 . Filed under: top ten tuesday .
Lydia is the quintessential girl. She’s quiet, demure and sweet. She loves crafts, reading and princesses. I knew having a boy would be different but HOLY TOLEDO. Asa is SO different from Lydia. I know every child is different regardless of sex but today I’m going to list the TOP TEN WAYS ASA PROVES BOYS AND GIRLS ARE DIFFERENT.
1. How does he know how to crawl on EVERYTHING?
2. He is one track. If he is digging in the trashcan and I pick him up, tell him NO and then move him to the other side of the house, he is back at the trash can in .2 seconds.
3. He is loud. Oh, so loud.
4. His favorite sign is EAT. He signs it 45% of the day. He cannot stand to have others eat around him. He MUST be eating if anyone is even near the kitchen.
5. How does he know how to crawl on EVERYTHING?
6. He’s one track. Have I mentioned this? He crawls under the kitchen table everyday and gets stuck everyday.
7. He loves to stick his hand in the potty. I don’t know what this is or what it means. But it’s gross and an every day occurrence.
8. He wants to know how things work. I know that seems weird for a 1 year old, but I swear it’s true. When we were at Disneyland he didn’t even pay attention to the Carousel. He was interested in how the reins were connected to his horse. Ever since he was crawling he wanted to play with the screws on the ironing board. Anything new requires an absolute once over. He must see every part.
9. He puts everything in his mouth. Balls. Food off the floor. Shoes. Leaves. Sticks. Dirt. Socks. Books. Turtles.
10. He’s dramatic. OK, so this is really more of a girl thing. But good grief, is it that bad, buddy? Do you really need to bang your head on the floor? Or wail? Or screech?

What is it with the oral fixation of some kids? Andrew put not one thing in his mouth (including food, but that’s another story) but Will put EVERYTHING in his mouth (and still occasionally does it at 3, huh?) and it drives me nuts!
Does Lydia like to cook? Andrew showed a little interest in cooking (he loved Emeril, “BAM!”) but Will is turning into quite the chef. I figure he’ll be making breakfast for all of us in another year or so!

Our son had a fascination with the potty too … he loved to rinse his pacifier in it. GROSS! He also killed every plant I had by digging in and eating the dirt. But our daughter had an oral fixation too … she drank bubble bath once. Kids!

Olivia and Max are the same way – totally different (is that an oxymoron – same way/totally different?). Anyway, I am amazed at how boys have that inate way to make cool gun-shooting noises. Even at three years old Max’s are way better than mine and Olivia’s put together. (Disclaimer – I did not teach him how to play guns, but it’s another boy thing. He just picked it up somewhere along the way.) Have a wonderful day!!

Yep, I am pretty sure that boys are not the same species. Before mine could walk he tried to pick up the footstool to see how heavy it was.
I also get it about the studying how things work, mine was staring at the gears&stuff overhead that made the horses move up and down.
I do dearly love my boy but he clearly doesn’t have the same thought process as my daughter and I.

one of my fears since Ladybug became mobile was her playing in the toilets. we have the safety handles over the door knobs so she doesn’t have free access to them. Since we’re still working on potty training, this still works for us. But with 2 kids, I’m not sure how it would work, except Lydia would either have to learn to open the door or constantly bug you when she has to go potty.

When my son was starting to crawl, he would scoot under the kitchen table or chairs and stare at the bottoms for hours. I finally went under there to see what was so fascinating and it was the screws.
Silly boys!

I was so interested in reading your list because I’m just waiting to see how different my 8 mo old boy is from my two girls. He is definitely loud…he screeches like a girl, which doesn’t thrill my hubby too much!

boys and girls are so very different!
My last son loved to eat poop, so be happy with the toilet thing. It isn’t so bad in the grand scheme of what he could be doing. Like snacking out of the litter box. Daily. His poop used to smell like dead fish because he would crawl around and help himself to cat food all day, while he was still exclusively breast fed.

LOVED this post! Oh, so true. I have a little princess girl and then two years later LB hit me like a train. I found him drinking water out of the birdbath while I was raking this week. Nice. Hoping that the antibiotics he’s finishing up from his ear infection will kill anything he ingested from our feathered friends and their stagnant water.

My little H-man used to crawl on the dishwasher door, too! They get over it.. and then into play-doh and crayons on the wall. I have 2 boys, so I don’t know this demure you speak of.

LOL! Such a good list. I had a boy after two girls, so I really get this. Also, I have a very similar picture of my son climbing into the dishwasher at that age. It really must be in the their boy genes. =)
