HARRY CONNICK JR: YOUR SONGS *a giveaway*

Did I ever tell you about the time I met Harry Connick, Jr.? Yeah, well, it’s because it hasn’t happened. YET. I have a long time crush on Harry and his music. I can’t remember the first time I heard one of his songs but I do remember the first time I ever saw him…

My husband surprised me with tickets to Harry’s Come By Me Tour. We are big conert go-ers. Well, in college we were big concert go-ers. And most of those concerts were for indie bands that no one had ever heard of and were driving around in a 15 passenger van and getting excited because there were more than 50 people at the show.

So, when we got to Harry’s show, it was a little different. They were serving wine. No one was pushing their way to the front. I didn’t see any band shirts or tattoos. Everyone was just sitting in their seat quietly talking and sipping their wine.

I, on the ther hand, was sneaking a peak at my neighbor’s program. You know, the giant full color book composed strictly of Harry’s face? Yeah. The girl finally said, “Uhm. Would you like to look at it?” *blush*

The concert started and I’m pretty sure I never moved. Except for that one time that Harry said, “Hey, you guys are far away. I know you all paid different prices to sit where you are, but does anyone care? Come on down to the front!” All the single girls (including my neighbor) ran down to the front. She asked me if I wanted to go, too. I almost did, then remembered I was with my husband. You know, dance with the one who brung ya.

When the show was over my husband (the music snob) said, “Harry has more talent in his little finger than all the bands I listen to combined!” And it’s true. Harry is a writer, composer, singer, pianist, arranger—musician! And he ain’t hard on the eyes either. Just sayin’.

I think I own all of Harry’s CDs. I especially love Songs I Heard (perfect for baby showers, by the way) and When My Heart Finds Christmas. His new album, Your Songs just came out last week and it is divine! I got a preview copy from One2One Network (another great company that anyone can hook up with—they just start buzz for companies and how could I not buzz about Harry?) and am excited to pass another copy on to you!

In case you haven’t heard (or seen—Harry was on Oprah and I missed it!), the album is Harry’s version of some very famous songs. I have to admit, I didn’t know a lot of the songs but here are a few of my new favorites:

Can’t Help Falling In Love With You by Elvis
They Long To Be Close To You by The Carpenters (oh, I think this one is my fave!)
Besame Mucho (wait till you hear Lydia sing this one. it’s a hoot!)
First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack
Your Song by Elton John

Not to mention about 12 more hits. The entire album is kinda slow (in a good way!) and not heavy on the big-band/jazzy thing I like best. But hello, it’s Harry! He could sing the phonebook and I’d buy the album.

So, wanna win a CD? Or know someone who might like it? It would make a great Christmas gift! If you’d like to win your very own YOUR SONGS cd just leave me a comment below telling me your favorite Harry song, cd or story.

For an additional optional entry feel free to leave me a comment when you:

(My CD and my winner’s CD were given to me for free by One2One Network. I was was asked to post my review of the CD. I accepted because I love Harry. I am paying for the postage to mail the CD myself. Does the FTC give kickbacks for that?! Thought not.)

I’m a huge fan, too, ever since When Harry Met Sally. I was SO jealous when he married that Victoria’s Secret model. Only seen him in concert twice, and had a very similar experience. (Why aren’t we all cheering, rushing the stage, and throwing our firstborn babies??!?)

If I’d had the opportunity to go up front like you did, I’d've just given my husband one look, and taken off. He would’ve understood. :)

*sigh* I love Harry.

Don’t know why I haven’t bought the album yet!

Thanks for the chances to win!

Entry #1- My Harry Story. In high school, I listened to “She” from the Red Light/Blue Light album every night to put myself to sleep. Seriously, for like 2 years, I put my cd player on repeat, right next to my head. It’s actually playing IN my head now!

When I was younger (high school-ish), my mom thought it would be fun to take my best friend and me to go to a Harry concert with she and her best friend. After all, how many musicians could we BOTH enjoy? (Also, she likes to make fun of me for liking Harry, because she swears he sounds like Barry Manilow, who she loves. Which, he kinda does, I guess.) But when we went to the ticket place (remember life before the internet?!), we found out that tickets were crazy expensive.

So it was really a “thought that counts” kind of Harry experience. *sigh*

Big fat Harry fan here, too! My DH and I have seen him in concert twice. The last time was last Christmas–what an awesome date night with my hubby … and Harry. LOL! At the first concert (which was outdoors and fabulous, BTW), it was a gal’s 30th birthday. He actually sang to her. Can you imagine!?!

When Harry Met Sally came out when I was in high school, and my mom and I fell in love with it. In a completely unprecedented move, Mom decided on show night that we would go to the concert and try to scalp tickets. (WHat? Mom?) So we got two singles, headed to our seats (mom let me have the one that was closer). I sat down and was greeted by an usher who told me she needed to take me to a seat where I would be able to see better… in the front row behind the keyboard. That began my obsession.

Several years later – and several concert experiences later – I found myself alone for an evening in New York City. What to do, but to try to see Harry in The Pajama Game? Harry. Pajamas. No tickets, anywhere. I stalked the ticket office all day, but nothing. Then I loitered outside as people started filing into the sold out theater. No one had extras. Not for any price – and believe me, my willingness to pay was increasing by the minute. I’d almost given up hope when a guy appeared 4 minutes before curtain from inside the theater, asking if anyone needed a ticket. I didn’t hug him, but I could have. I paid him, followed him to his seats and enjoyed the view… from 10 feet away.

Still haven’t met him, though.

OK…here is my Harry story. During his last Christmas tour promoting his new album, I got a chance to see him in Atlantic City, NJ. After the first festive song, he got off stage and took a picture with a fan. Then he had “befriended” a little boy during the concert, joking with him throughout. Harry then invited the boy and his family backstage after the show…everyone gasped…especially me. Then he got off the stage again and started to twirll a girl around showing her off to the audience because of her beauty. All I could think was, I want a picture, I want to go back stage, and I want a twirll….after all it was my birthday. So, after the show was over, with some coaxing from my husband, I went down to the stage and asked Harry for a birthday hug! Well, he asked everyone to sit down (after his ovation)…everyone sat except me. He came over to the end of the stage, gave me a hug! But, was that enough for me…NOPE! I boldy asked him for a song…he sang Happy Birthday infront of the entire audience! My husband said the everyone was singing…but the only thing I heard was his voice and the only thing I saw were his stunning blue eyes. Happy Birthday to me! If I win, I’m going to give the CD to my sister….after all, she watched the kids while my husband and I enjoyed the night out!

My favorite album is We Are In Love, every single stinkin song on there is great. The saddest song I have ever heart is on there, “Drifting”. My favorite moment was in concert in the early 90′s. He was singing It Had To Be You and sung the lyircs as follows: “With all your faults, I love you Jill.” Everyone there went “Awwwwwwwwww.”
And your husband was right.
That man is super talented & downright handsome.
I’ve had a Harry Crush since high school. I was a very well-rounded teenager.
