How To Eat a Kiwi (or The Most Random Thing You’ll Read All Day)

Do kiwis frighten you? I mean, fuzzy brown fruit is not exactly enticing. Plus, they are kind of a pain to peel and eat. Most people just slice them and then peel off the tiny peel on the edges. And it’s kinda juicy to do a nice chopping job. Well, if these are the kinds of things that keep you up at night (which I’m sure they are) then have I got news for you! I know THE CORRECT WAY TO EAT A KIWI. Please, hold your applause until the end.

It doesn’t require a lot of slicing or dicing—but you will need two utensils*:

1. KNIFE. Slice in half along the…uhm, equator.
2. SPOON. Scoop kiwi out of it’s own portable bowl (aka the peel)!

Isn’t that cool? When you’ve scraped out every bit of kiwi goodness, just throw away the empty peel! Kiwis may just upstage bananas as the most creative portable fruit!

*{I did used to have this cool kiwi spoon-knife-thingie. It was a spoon on one side and a serrated knife on the other side. It was plastic so you could carry it around in your lunch (but not on a plane, probably). I tried to find it online and can’t find it anywhere! Hmph.}

Speaking of kiwis–Lydia and I are doing some kiwi activities while we study the Fruit of the Spirit this week at Impress Your Kids. Check it out, pretty please?

    I love eating kiwis that way! Have you ever had Golden Kiwis? They are AMAZING!!! When we ate them cold, they tasted almost like a sherbet!! We ate them in Korea all the time, but haven’t seen them anywhere here in the states.

    we love eating kiwis that way too. Almost as fun as eating watermelons with a spoon. We use regular old grapefruit spoons to eat our kiwis.

    Yep, that’s what I do, too! I actually have 4 of ’em left sitting on the counter, waiting till they’re a teensy bit softer.

    I’ve also used a (good) carrot peeler on them, too. It works great!

    when we lived in california last year, we happened upon some sort of kiwi/new zealand festival in huntington beach. they were handing out kiwis and those cool little plastic two-in-one spoon/knife things to eat them with (called a spife!). i couldn’t bear to throw it away because it was so neat. i still have it too! search google images for ‘spife’ and some pictures will come up! 🙂

    We eat kiwis that way, too. I only peel them if I want them sliced to look pretty on a dessert.

    You know, I’ve struggled with peeling kiwis for years, thinking “there’s got to be a better way.” And lo and behold, there is! Thank you for your random post!

    That’s so funny that you posted about this. I saw you eat a kiwi this way a long time ago and I’ve eaten them this way ever since. You changed my life, or at least my eating habits.
