Guess what wii got?!

I remember seeing Super Mario Brothers for the first time. Staci and Mandi had it at home on their big tv downstairs. It was one of those tvs that sat right on the ground like a piece of furniture. I remember they were already in world 8-3 when I was watching it. I just couldn’t believe they were controlling a little man on their screen! It didn’t even remotely connect that it was like an arcade game at the bowling alley. I just thought that first Nintendo was the best thing I’d ever seen.

My brother, Jason and I finally got it for Christmas that year. I was in 6th grade. My mom had just had a hysterectomy just before Christmas so we were stuck at home for 6 weeks. And Jason and I lived in Mario-world. After Mario it was Tetris, Adventure Island and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and any other game we could rent at the video store by our house. We stayed up later than any human should for that Nintendo.

oh, he's so cute!

Well, we never got another game system after that. Jason did get the first gameboy which was about as big as my toaster. Les has an xbox which I think I’ve played about 3 times. I’m a girl, so after that original NES, I didn’t have a gaming gene like most boys have. I could never get into those fighting games and fourteen buttons on one controller and all that.

But I thought the Wii looked cool when it came out. I’m kinda partial to bowling. Plus, it looked like a fun party game. Les looks for them all the time, but they are never available. (What is up with that?!) But this weekend there was ONE at Wal-Mart. We had 2 gift cards that had been sitting in my wallet and decided to spend them on a brand new Wii!!

That night we played bowling, boxing, baseball and golf! It is so fun! I can’t wait to have a party and see everyone bowl their little arms off!

But I have to admit the very best part was was downloading (because yeah, the wii is connected to our wireless internet!) Super Mario Brothers from the original NES. I was kinda giddy hearing that first sound of “dut-dut-dud-duh-da-dun-du-dut!” in world 1-1. (I ended up making it to 8-2. Les made it ito 8-4. Hmph.) I had an absolute blast playing it. It was crazy how many memories were connected to playing that game! What can I say? I’m old skool!

Were you ever into video games?

Super Mario Bros. was the best! Wii have the Wii too and love it. I just recently bought the Wii Fit and have been using it for exercise. I’m sure there are much better ways to exercise, but it is pretty fun and keeps me going. Enjoy your bowling.

Yes, we were into video games, but it was Atari for us. Sometimes we girls had to wait for my MOTHER to finish playing because she’d be so into it.

WHAT?!? That was my absolute favorite… now there’s an extra reason for me to want a Wii…. I was a Nintendo fool… Josh is more of a PlayStation guy – I just couldn’t get into it b/c the controls are too complicated! 😉

Can I come play!? lol I would love to have a Wii, but I don’t see that in our future any time soon.

You probably have never heard of it, lol… but we had an Atari when I was a kid. My favorite games were Mr & Mrs Pacman, Space Invaders & Asteroids.

When we upgraded to a Ninetindo, I loved playing Mario Brothers & Tetris.

    Enjoy your game!

Wii have the Wii as well. I bought it about a year ago for our family. It has been amazing to watch my son and husband play Mario Kart. Who ever thought that my son would know the characters and boards that I grew up loving? I am excited to get the new Wii version of Dr. Mario using Wii Points. So many of the original NES games are being remade for the Wii. Have fun using your new game system 🙂

aww! We got a Wii not too long ago, but I’m not as into it as my hubby is. I was one of the few children who did not have any video games growing up. I will never forget the Christmas I begged for the original Nintendo and I DID NOT get it! UGH! I still tell my parents to this day that they stunted my social growth, but my mother claims that I am much more well-rounded because she made me go play outside instead of allowing me to sit in front of a tv and play video games all day. sigh.
At least now, as a grown-up, I can play video games any time I want… the funny thing is that I usually choose to do other things with my time. I guess my mom was right all along. 😉

You lucky girl! We finally talked my parents into buying one (for the grandchildren, of course). I would seriously bowl all stinkin’ night if I could. For Father’s Day, we got my dad a game that had darts, skeeball, and a couple of others…Oh, my sooo sooo fun!

I’ve never really had the best hand/eye coordination for the video games. I get too nervous and tense! I do like the Wii though. We don’t have one yet, I was hoping to maybe get my husband one for his birthday next week but I can’t find one anywhere. Internet here I come.

Sounds like you are already having a ton of fun with yours!

Um, YEAH!! I was the queen at Galaga and could hold my own in Super Mario Brothers. But that was when I had time to sit in front of a tv or go to the arcade. Sigh. It will be forty forevers before that comes round again.
