Book O’ The Day

We went to storytime again today. Every week they sing the same songs (Wheels on the Bus is Lydia’s fave!) and read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault complete with hand claps and leg pats. Lydia loves it so much you’d think we were at Disney World!

It’s all in rhyme with great pictures and lines like, “Skit Skat Skeedle Doo. Flip Flop Flee”. (Maybe it’s “skoodle doo”, I don’t remember. We’ve been home for 30 minutes and have only read it 2 times. I’m sure I’ll be able to quote it in my sleep by Sunday.)

Regardless, it’s worth it to watch Lydia pat her legs and try to clap her hands in rhythm while singing, “T-icka T-icka BOOM BOOM!”

What’s your book o’ the day?

That is one of my favorite kid books. My kids love it and I loved reading it to my students (K/1) when I was a teacher!

My Caterpillars LOVED this book. My 8 year old still quotes it sometimes to his cousin.

“Chicka, chicka, boom, boom, will there be enough room?” The black-eyed P is my favorite.

BTW – there’s a numbers version of this: Chicka, Chicka, 1,2,3. (“1 told 2 and 2 told 3, I’ll race you to the top of the apple tree!”)

My 7 year old loves that one! All the rytmic books are so much fun-we have been enjoying “The Lady with the Alligator Purse” and “There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Trout” lately. Ou all-time family favorite is “Barnyard Dance” by Sandra Boynton. My children are drawn to it, and they are 5 years apart, so it has lasted a long tim so far!

We’ll have to check that one out! We’re trudging our way through our Beatrix Potter collection right now. Today we read the Tailor of Gloucester, and I had Pippa’s attention until about 2/3 of the way though. She did pretty well considering it’s full of words like pipkin and penn’worth! Romilly was napping or it wouldn’t have happened at all :)

I’ve never read that one. We’re loving some Goldilocks and the Three Bears (although Wog’s attention span is not such that I can read it word for word– I have to condense it a bit!)

I love Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. It makes me want to sing! Our book of the day is a story Bible – whichever of the 3 he has that he sees first. Or the Lego magazines my brother brought over for him…

I wish I could tell you how much “ki ki moo moo” we’ve watched and read over the last week. My son is WAY into Chicka Chicka right now. He has two copies of the book that he carries around in a bag with him during the day and sleeps with at night.

I am currently reading The Potty Book for Boys 999 times a day to my 2 1/2 year old. A girl can dream, right? Two in diapers sucks so I just keep on reading and hoping!!! Chicka Chicka is a hit here too – love it!
