Shannon‘s hosting backwards works-for-me-wednesday today. I’ve been waiting for this because I have a big question. I know I could research it, but it would be SO much easier if someone else would just tell me what to do so I don’t have to figure it out. I’m thoughtful like that.
I have all these old pictures…you know, my cool Wordless Wednesday pictures? Lots of them have been pulled out of scrapbooks so they have all this black paper stuck to them. I want to get that black paper off without ruining the picture because there is all kinds of great writing on the back!
Anyone know how to do this? Or point me in the right direction–a photo website maybe?

I have no idea. Just came by to say hello.
Hello :0)
I don’t know either… sorry
You could possibly try this stuff called “Un-du”. It’s an adhesive remover liquid that comes with a built-in scraper. It’s supposed to remove adhesives & tape, stickers, gum, labels, grease & tar, shelf liner, and Velcro. I use it to remove sale stickers from book covers, and it does well at getting the paper stuff off. I don’t think it will ruin the photo because it evaporates. You might try doing a test on a picture that’s not too important and see how it does. I think you can get it at craft stores.

I have been told by those supposedly ‘in the know’ about the chemistry of photo degradation that the very best answer is to have them copied or scanned and reprinted.
That being said, Undu is indeed a great product and does work on everything I have tried it on but I have never been brave enough to try it on something irreplaceable.
Good Luck!!
I was just at a scrapbooking event a few weeks ago and overheard that Hobby Lobby was pulling Un Do off the shelves because one of the chemicals used to make it is considered illegal in China now. I don’t know anything else about it, and I’ve never used it. Have you tried a hairdryer on a low setting to release the adhesive? If you can get it to release a little, you might be able to gently scrape the paper off with one of those pampered chef pan scrapers. I’d hate to lose pictures! Thanks for your comment on my blog!
This might help. Grab a length of dental floss in two fists, then run it under the black paper, if possible. It might help ‘scrape’ it away without hurting the photo underneath!
Thanks so much for visiting my blog and leaving great baby shower ideas.
