It’s Thanksgiving week! Can you believe it? It seems like every year when Thanksgiving comes Christmas is just days away. I’m sure the Christmas decorations in September help move the season right along, too. It seems like Thanksgiving has become the opening celebration for the Christmas season. And it’s probably apropos anyway–starting off the most selfish and materialistic time of year with a day of Thanksgiving.
This year Thanksgiving is going to be different (and fun) for me because some of my California family is coming to Atlanta! The last time we had Thanksgiving with any of them was 1977. The year I was born. So. Yeah, it’s kind of a big deal. Plus, my dad and his sister are kind of a mini Paula Deen and Emeril. So, it’s gonna be some good eating.
I’ve already decided that the weekend after Thanksgiving we’re getting a Christmas tree. Lydia will be in hog heaven seeing a real live “Kimas” tree in her own house. Last year we were in the process of moving and only had a mini tree and zero other decorations. So, this year will be like…uh, Christmas when we open up all our Christmas boxes. I will also break out the Christmas music ON Thanksgiving day. Les has been trying to listen to it already, but I won’t listen to it until Thanksgiving.
There is noting like Christmas music to get you in the Christmas spirit.
And that leads me to our contest and giveaway this week. CHRISTMAS MUSIC! I’m giving away TWO Christmas cds! (Please don’t tell my hubby, he’s already ticked I’m giving away so much stuff…he doesn’t get the blog thing…)
The first is When My Heart Finds Christmas by Harry Connick, Jr. Big Band/Jazz/Swing has always been a favorite of mine. (I think it started when I saw Jimmy Stewart in the Glenn Miller Story when I was little.) Plus, I kind of have a crush on Harry. (We’re on a first name basis, you know.) Les took me to his concert as a birthday gift once. I almost ran to the stage with all the other single girls. I just didn’t think that would have been very nice since I came with my husband.
Anywhoooo.
I love this CD. And it’s got the song “It Must Have Been Old Santa Claus” which says “Happy Ho Ho Ho Ho to You” in the chorus. You can pretend it says Happy OH ho ho…”
I’m starting to ramble. See what Harry does to me?
The second CD is an instrumental, Charlie Brown Christmas by Vince Guaraldi. It’s the music from the famous Charlie Brown Christmas special. You always need a good instrumental. And this one is beautiful. If I only had one Christmas cd to listen to, it would be this one.
So, how do you win?
Well, I know you’re having a busy week with cooking and relatives and all that. So, I figure you’ll be a little low on blog fodder. So, write a post on your very own blog about what puts you in the Christmas spirit. What gets you ready for Christmas? What ushers in the holiday for you? Or something like that. Link back to me in that post and sign the Mr. Linky with your permalink!
I’m letting this contest run until Sunday, the 25th. I’ll pick TWO winners (one cd each) and you’ll be able to get in the mood for Christmas, too!
Happy oh! ho! ho! to you!
***updated***Hey, if you already have these cd’s still enter! I’ll send you one of my other faves or something–we’ll work it out!

I love Christmas music! I have already listened to some on the internet while I’ve been at work, but that’s all. I don’t have a set rule about when I’ll begin listening to it. I just decide from year to year how I’m feeling.
I’ll get right on that blog this week. You’re helping me get focused. That’s so helpful!

Oh, oh, I want in on this one! But, I’ll have to wait until Friday to put my post up. 🙂
I can’t do it before Thanksgiving.
Leigh says
mmmm – you KNOW I love me some Harry! I have been able to see him in concert 3 times – best ever was at Red Rocks in Colorado… even in the rain! mmmm… I love both of Harry’s Christmas CDs – do you have his 2nd one? I forget what it’s called (bad Harry fan!) but it’s a good one too!
I’ll post soon, and let you know! If I don’t get to it before Thursday, here’s wishing you a happy Turkey day!!!!
Deanne says
I have that Harry Christams cd…..it’s the best! (and LOVE the ‘ho ho ho’ song the best!) I’ll be busting it out this week, can’t wait! 🙂
We have a guy that leads worship at our church on occasion and he has a bluesy/jazzy sound, and best of all he sounds like Harry! (my husband does not agree, but phooey on him!) I love those Sundays when ‘Harry’ leads worship. In fact, yesterday was one of those days! The guy has two cds too, I picked one up yesterday after church….now I’m worshiping in my truck with ‘Harry’! 🙂
