Why Being A Grandparent is Apparently Better than Being a Parent

Posted by oh amanda on November 17th, 2007 . Filed under: family, grandparents, kids, me, moms, motherhood .

Grandmama & Papa (aka, my parents) took Lydia and my niece Nora on a little trip to (don’t laugh) Dollywood. My mom had free tickets, ok? And after looking at her 186 photos, I have decided that being a grandparent is better than being a parent.

Reason #1. You can drive all day long with two kids in the car and instead of putting them right to bed, just let them stay up for awhile. In fact, you can take them on a little ride through the hotel on a luggage cart.

Then, when you do lay them down, if they want to get up and talk to you while they are in their crib, that’s fine, too. (Notice the time stamp, please. That’s PM folks.)

Reason #2. If your granddaughter doesn’t want to eat say carrots, peas or corn for dinner, you can let her eat ice cream and gummy bears.

Reason #3. You can let yor granddaughters ride the kiddie rids alone. And seatbelts…who needs ‘em?!

Reason #4. Jumping on the bed without scolding or worrying.

Reason #5. Buying bags of candy with absolute zero guilt.

Reason #6. When you ask your granddaughters if they are ready to go home and see Mommy & Daddy, they give you blank stares and/or start screaming, “Noooooo!”

Yep… you’re right… much more fun to be a grandparent. Especially since after doing all that… you then get to drop them off at their own homes and go to your home to take a nap with no interruptions!

Yes, it must be more fun to be a grandparent. Why can’t I just skip this part of parenthood and go straight to the ‘grand’ part? Oh yeah, ’cause being a grandparent is the reward for allowing your children to live/survive to adulthood.

Don’t forget that if you were a grandparent, you could buy your 17 month old grandson finger paints and let him write on his clothes with magic markers! You can, really! I’ve seen it with my own two eyes!

My parents just asked if they can take the Wog to Gatlinburg with them in a few weeks…I’m not so sure after seeing these pictures! ha ha!

I love watching my parents with the kids. They love them so much. I think that trip looked like a perfect outing. Lydia is just as doll. Seriously she is. … and your mom, she is beautiful too. Guess you got your looks from her?

More than a few times I’ve gotten after my children for something only to hear the retort, “But Mimi and Poppy let us!”
    Grandparents are wonderful, aren’t they.

Being a Grandparent is the best!! When my grand-girls come to visit for 2 weeks each summer, they get to stay in their jammies all day if they want. Makes my daughter crazy. :)
