I saw Ratatouille yesterday! I’ve been wanting to take Lydia ever since I saw 9 minutes of the movie on our DirecTV. We ate lunch at my il’s for the 4th of July and then headed off to the theater for Lydia’s first movie! (Well, not really, she slept through Deja Vu and played in the back of Casino Royale and Night at the Museum. But this movie was for her!)
So, what did I think?
I think it felt like a funny old kids’ book you might find on the bottom shelf of a dusty used bookstore. It was homey, tranquil and yummy. Even with the rat clan escaping from a window (*shudder*), it was delightful! It’s not Toy Story2 or The Incredibles. But I really enjoyed it.
It had a few imitative words (“welcome to hell”, can you believe that?) and some heavy cartoon kissing (which is SO weird to me). But overall, I think it had a nice statement without being too much of a lame cheesy (ha!) moral tale.
I think all the Pixar movies end up focusing on the character’s purpose. What is a toy’s purpose? An ant’s purpose? A superhero’s purpose? I like that the characters come to grips with who they are and what they were DESIGNED to be. It reminds me of the body example in the Bible. We’ve all got a purpose, some of the purposes might seem insignificant (being a child’s plaything), some might seem huge (saving the world), but we all need to do what God designed us to do. Then we’ll have joy and satisfaction.
And that’s how Ratatouille ended for me…with a sigh of satisfaction.

I wonder what goes thru Lydia’s precious little head when you snap pictures of her. Like, is she thinking, “there goes mom again with that flashy thing”……i love seeing them though.
I want to take the kiddos to see that too! It looks cute, thanks for the review (now I know what to expect :o).
Lydia is just a living doll, seriously!
Seems like she’s been a little movie rat! 🙂 Love that picture with her thumb in her mouth! Too cute!
I’m so glad it was good – my kids have been begging to go see it. I’m trying to wait for a rainy day so we don’t spend a sunny, summer day inside – but we might just have to go anyway!
Thank you Amanda, your sweet comment made me tear up!
I’ve been wondering about this movie. I saw like a 20 sec clip and it made me want to go see it. I really really ratatouille-y do 🙂 Now you have convinced me.
And this is so off topic, but then again, not, but I love it that I am typing right here and in your ohtags I see out of the corner of my eye, “Jesus” which is bigger and bolder than so many other tags. That’s just one thing that reinforces to me how cool you are and how much I like (love) you 🙂 Jesus is top notch, even in your bloggings. I want to be more like you, a. Thanks for encouraging me to keep Jesus first. 🙂
We saw it too. Everyone had a good time. Well, Ethan and I enjoyed a good part of it in the hallways- but anyway. It kind of grossed me out when the old lady’s light fell from the ceiling and HUNDREDS of rats came pouring into her house- YUCK!
My kids loved this movie. It was so funny. Definate must-see this summer.
Your blog is beautiful. I love the design and the colors.
I will be back for more!
I’ve been wanting to see this with the kids. I have heard mixed reviews so I am glad that you liked it.
