I’m having so much fun at the Ultimate Blog Party! Thanks to everyone who has stopped by and left a comment!
Like I mentioned in my first party post, I’m sharing some of my favorite parties with you. Here’s today’s:
December 7, 2005 is a day that shall live in infamy for my family. My dad turned 50. So, we decided to do a surprise party! But not your typical, everyone hide behind the couch, oh no!
First, we all got matching shirts. Mine says, “I love my 50year old daddy.” Then we surprised him at work with a limo and swept him away to a birthday party extravaganza! My mom and I had researched all the things that are special about December 7. It’s National Bingo Day, National Letter Writing Day, Cotton Candy Day and of course, Pearl Harbor Day. 2005 also marked a lot of famous 50 year olds: the Waffle House, Disneyland and the polio vaccine. (!)
So, we made a giant Bingo card that led Daddy through his 2 day birthday party. We went to the Hard Rock Cafe and sat next to a picture of Greg Allman (also born December 7). We ate cotton candy, had breakfast at the Waffle House, went to the Festival of the Trees, saw The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe on the big screen, spent the night at the Embassy Suites, read old magazines from 1955, 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995 & 2005. It was without a doubt one of the most creative parties I’ve been involved in. Here’s one of my favorite pictures.
My fam after we surprised Daddy. Notice our matching shirts and my 9month pregnant belly! (Lydia was born almost exactly one month later!) {for you who really want to know who’s who…L-R: my cousin, my dh, Daddy, my neice, me, my mom, my sil, my bro}
OK, and one more of the party favors. Because really, they were just cool. My dad is kinda…ok, really an old rocker, hence the Darrell Rocks button.
Besides the fact that this was a celebration of my dad, my hero and one of the most amazingly humble men on the planet, it was also a profound event because little did we know that in just 4 short months, Daddy would be undergoing emergency surgery on a cancerous tumor in his colon. If you’d like to read about his cancer, chemo, radiation and ultimate HEALING of cancer, click here. To quote Jennifer Hudson, “Look what God can do!”
Wow, if you read all that, you really like me, you really like me! Thanks for hanging out to hear about another one of my favorite parties! Let me know about a really cool party you’ve hosted!

What a totally cool party you all threw for your Dad! That’s awesome!!! The only party I can think of that I’ve been involved in putting together was my parents 25th anniversary party. It was not a surprise, but the trip to Maui was!! 🙂

What a beautiful family you have. 🙂 I replied to your first party post, too, before I decided I was going to keep on reading! 🙂

Wow, that’s a great party for your daddy! My hubby (he robbed the cradle) will be 45 this summer… he’s a guitarist and would looooove a party like that. :o)
